Nasir Ben Olu Dara Jones, he is lyrically miles ahead of these cookie-cutter rappers, including Jay-Z.

Lyrically, gotta give it way up for Nas. If only he would go back to Illmatic form.
As far as industry-savvy however, Jay Z simply knows what works. He has somehow managed to straddle the line between mainstream acceptance and street cred. I can't think of one other artist who has done that without ostrasizing one or the other completely.

FYI
Check out the newest issue of Vibe. It talks about how Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B has been watered down to increase sales and cross over appeal.

God news, Librasoul, the Stillmatic LP lives up to its name. I love all of the tracks; he's really left that Esco buffoonery behind....
Also, both men recently received 5 mics in the source. This is the first accomplishment for Jiggaman, and Nas's second (Illmatic was the first).
True, Jay-hova has figured out that over-saturating the market with the same song over any beat works, but how long will it work, especially since every new rapper (think Fabolous, Ja Rule) is cashing in using the same formula.
The battle for the top is probably one of the best in hip-hop history; I just hope that this one stays on wax.

NAS!!!
Jay-Z has worked the whole Jigga thing for too long...I was just not feeling "the Blueprint" at all-Nas has recaptured what made Illmatic a classic...and Stillmatic is the s**t!!!

i can't pick
personally, i like NAS and Jay-Z...
Jay-Z's flow is tighter while NaS has lyrics that are a little bit deeper. They both use complex metaphors and similies to broadcast their point. Jay makes me laugh/cry, NaS makes me think... Both are tight, just in different ways... I appreciate bofuvem and can't really pick.

Personally, I like both Hova and Nas. Nas is raps on a deeper level and his lyrics have more meaning. His music you can listen to riding in the car. That one song he did backwards was tiiiiiiiight. I think a lot of people overlook him. Jay Z makes tracks you can dance to plus he speaks on a variety of subjects.

As for me I like the style and lyrics of Jay-Z, I have never really been a fan of Nas ( he only has maybe one or two songs that I like and that's it)

Nuff Respect to Nas...but J got him
I have to start off by saying I think NAS is on another level than Jay. Jay is a great pop rapper. Nas is a phenomenal ARTIST. Nas is way deeper and has more creative, meaningful, thought provoking songs. As of late, JZ has been coming out with a few songs of substance, but like I said, as far as creativity, thoughts, and depth...he is no where near Nas's level.
That said, I must admit, I think Jay smashed Nas on the DIS tip. Ether was hot. Banging beat, bangin flow, clever wordplay...he talked some good shit. Jays flow was no where near as complex, but he had more clever shit to say that was more than just shit talkin....it was TRUE. Nas talks about how J wanted to be on his classics...JZ has had better success and more consistent classics....so who won?
Nas calls JZ a faggot...whatever
JZ fucked his baby momma..OUCH...so who won?
He talks about Damon being equivelent to P-Ditty
cats like Damon's dance (like Dittys got hot dances)
and Damon is paid (like Puffy)...so where exactly is the Dis?
Nas says Eminem out flowed JZ on his own track....hey..this is Eminem...whiteboy or not...he is one of the Rawest lyricists out...I wouldn't be embarrased if he outflowed me...Eminem is COLD!
JZ said Nas's Bodyguard(Horse) OchyWally verses was better than his....True...who the hell is Horse? Nobody knows who this clown is....his rhymes are garbage. To get outflowed by a no-name wac MC is VERY EMBARRASSING....so who won here?
Nas talked about JZs one skeleton (Hawian Sophie)
JZ talked about Nas's MANY skeletons...The Firm bullshit....Escobar bullshit....Bravehearts bullshit (which was the only wack song on Stillmatic)...basically every album after Illmatic...so who won here?
Nas is my guy...but I gotta be real...he should keep doing his thing but he can't win trying to dis JZ....JZs got too much ammo
