Speaking about Greeks at College Fair - help!
Hi everyone,
I'm going to a college fair today as a DZ representative to answer questions about Greek Life from high school female seniors. I've got my display board set up with DZ's mascot, jewel, philanthropy, crest (my dad cross-stitched it for me!). I've also got t-shirts from various events and pictures. So, I've got the basics.
BUT, I was wondering if anyone can think of things that would be interesting to potential rushees that I don't have displayed yet. The purpose of the college fair isn't to rush girls, but to show them the benefits of Greek life. Anyone got suggestions on things I can tell them?
Prospective rushees, what would YOU want to see or hear about Greeks at a college fair? Please give me some feedback!
THANKS!

Intermurals, if your greeks are into them. I played sports all my life, but was not deticated enough/good enough to play collegiate. I was also too shy to just join a random intermural team. Playing with all my sisters if fun & it gives me the confidence to actually play.

Definitely play up the sisterhood part. HS is a vicious time and college-bound women (as independent as they can act) do crave that closeness and acceptance to some degree.
Let them know that you aren't the best of friends all of the time, but that you will always be sisters and nothing will stand in the way of that.

"greek Life is about moments . . ."
"Years after college you will never remember that physics exam you took, you'll never wish you had spent another hour reading literature. But what you will remember is intense quality moments that you share with incredible people. Whether something small like a heart to heart discussion over coffee, or large like attending a winter ball, these are examples of peak moments that define, change and become memories we cherish forever.
Joining Greek Life provides these types of moments.
Leaving aside the networking with hundreds of thousands of alumnae, leaving aside the scholarship opportunities and class help, leaving aside the numerous chances to be a leader and grow, Greek life will provide some of your life's best experiences among people that will share your laughter
and with whom you will shed tears.
Bridesmaids at your wedding and mourners at your funeral: Greek Life is for life.
I have taken the time to come here today because my moments have been so prescious to me, that I don't want you to miss out on your own and never know what you may have missed."
Something along these lines

Tell them that being in a Fraternity/Soroity is not just a 4-5 year commitment but one for a life time!
I am a LXA for life and have been since 1966!
It is a life time thing as I am still meeting Brothers and interact with them and still active with my International and my House.

James - excellent as usual - especially "bridesmaids at your wedding & mourners at your funeral." So very, very true.

I have always liked the fact that women who join have an oppurtunity to be real leaders, like the President or event heads. In many situations, like SGA and so on, women usually take a secretary position or anything but President, but sorority life gives us the experience needed to take on other roles too.
I know there are always exceptions, like ECU's new SGA President, but she is an AOPi, and she has gotten a lot of leadership through chapter life that now helps her run ECU SGA!

*MAJOR Thumbs up*, GCs, especially James!
Just reading this thread ALONE makes me want to become a Greek so bad!!!!
I am most attracted to the idea of all these girls becoming your sisters, your friends for life. I love my friends, and they mean so much to me. So I would hope to have a similar, if not deeper, bond with my sorority sisters in college! I would love to join a sorority next year which would truly feel like a second family to me! Plus, I love to volunteer and do good for humanity, so I am very attracted to the Philanthropy aspect as well! It would be fabulous to volunteer AND spend time with your sisters all at once!
I also like the idea of networking and leadership opportunities!
DZRose-how did it go???!!! I am sure you did GREAT! The poster sounds beautiful! Email me to tell me!

Talk about the lifetime benefits. I know AGD has a program for sisters to help them find sisters in their related field in order to help them get a job. Talk to them about the support system you get and also the feeling of home away from home. That is all I can think of right now.

Just think of how a sorority runs on a day-to-day basis...opportunities for leadership enhancement, opportunities for paraprofessional training, regional and national conferences, experiences in PR, fundraising, parliamentary procedure, bookkeeping, educational programming, event-planning, philnthropy education and planning.

Not only the benefits of sisterhood, but what about the benefits of job skills, working in teams, and leadership! The opportunities to make a difference both within your chapter and in the community.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice! The fair went well --- small attendance, but that was to be expected since this is its first year. We had 9 sororities show up with display boards about their organizations, and they all did a wonderful job. I met lots of really good women, and I was so happy for the opportunity to talk to them about the benefits of DZ and GLO's as a whole! Overall, I'd say it was a success!
Thanks again!
By the way, newbie -- glad to see you posting again!
