Two a Days: Hover High

Didn't see a thread on this...

While channel surfing, I stumbled upon MTV's "Two a Days." Was wondering if anyone else has seen this show, and your impressions of Hoover's Football Coach. Is he abusive? Or motivating?

It's like a reality-version of Varsity Blues. It's crazy. They are all WAY too obsessed with football. HS Football is not the everything of life, and some of these people need to learn that. Maybe Alabama needs a Pro team to cure them of the HS obsession.

Motivating. Try to find a high school football coach in the country who doesn't act like that. Good luck.

Motivating. I really like seeing this show. I was a football manager in High School and so this show brings back memories. I wish our HS coach was more "into it" like Coach Propst is on the Hoover team.

For some boys, their dream is to go pro, so HS football is very important. Their mentality is that the better they play in HS, the better college they'll get into and better the chance that they'll go pro.

But I do agree that HS football shouldn't be taken so serious, but that is how some people are.

Yeah, come to Texas and watch a big time 5A HS football game.....coaches are way worse. Its pretty ridiculous actually....thinking about how much HS football is worshiped here. I'm pretty sure my football coach is making around 150 -175,000 a year......to coach football and be an athletic director.

Remember though...this is football in the south. HS football is huge and most of these guys want to play for a big college program too.

I'll admit that I watch this show.

I don't know how much of the show is put on for TV and how much of it is what would really happen, had the cameras not been there. I'd say the coach is a tough coach, but I have no doubts that he is capable of producing college athletes and beyond.

Did anyone catch the part of the episode (I think it was the first one) when the coach was talking to a mother whose son had been kicked off the team? He had been very sick and didn't come to practice. He had a doctor's excuse, but the coach said that wasn't good enough and that most of the kids go to practice even while sick. (correct me if I'm wrong on that...it was late. lol)

I'd say that many coaches act in similar ways.

What you are seeing ON camera is nothing compared to what goes on OFF camera.

These are guys who are taught to play through the pain in a lot of cases. If they want to have any chance of going to the next level, even a community college team, they're gonna have to suck it up.

When I was in HS, our brother school had the perennial state footbal championship team. These boys had parents who worked 2, sometimes 3 jobs just to send their sons to St. Louis to play football, get in to college and play football, and hope to make it in the pros. If you hear a Polynesian surname on Game Day, chances are they came from St. Louis, Kahuku, or one of the other powerhouse state teams.

While Hawai`i high school football isn't quite what y'all have in the South, HS football is God here as well.

To hijack the thread, my husband had a family from Hawai'i move to our hometown. He coached two of the sons. MAN, they rocked it. It was a completely different style of play. And, they tore it up. I have mad respect for them.

Someone on TWoP said Kristin joined Phi Mu. Not sure about the others.
