Question Fsu Fsu Fsu Fsu!!!

My Bst Friend held her Fall Recruitment bid 'til Spring here at Florida State- and is now debating over whether to rush that house (Phi Mu) or rush again next fall. Unfortunately(?), She's weighing people's views of the sorority very heavily. Can anybody help her out as to what Phi MU's- and other FSU sororities (In case she should she change her mind and re-rush) - are like?

Talking a little bit of info for you...

From what I've heard, the FSU Greek system is pretty strong. I was down there a couple of weekends ago for the GA Tech/FSU game and the houses are beautiful.

I know that Delta Zeta's chapter at FSU is pretty strong, because one of my friends is from there. However, I don't know anything about the others. Sorry! Tell your friend good luck for me! I'm sure she'll be happy no matter what house she joins!

I believe there is a member of GC that is an alumna of FSU and Phi Mu (Ladybug?).

I understand that your choices are more limited as an upperclassman going through recruitment at FSU. I know a young lady who went through as a sophomore, on a full scholarship, great grades, beautiful, very sweet, outgoing, and very involved on campus (still is very involved). She did pledge a sorority and she loves her chapter and sisters (very proud). However, I do remember her telling me that she felt she was cut from several chapters, because she was not a freshman.

On a different note, the '01 PC, normally makes up a larger portion of the chapter during their first recruitment as members. That can often make a difference in voting, depending on the individual chapter's voting process for recruitment.

There will only be 2 or 3 houses that will be eligible for Spring Recruitment at FSU. I don't believe Phi Mu will be one of them. All other houses on campus are at or above total and will have to wait until Formal Recruitment in August 2002 to accept new members.

Your friend should not base her decision on what other people think about a sorority. Only her opinion should matter. Chapters are different on each campus and once you have graduated, alumnae chapters are even more different than that. Your friend should go where she feels the most comfortable. If she goes to a group hoping to become like them, she will be very unhappy.

Spring Rec.

Her bid was issued in the Fall and she held it til Spring- Phi Mu just told her it would be good for a year, and that, should she so choose, she could accept it formally in Jan. I agree that she should not choose a sisterhood based on other people's opinions, and she swears that she is just using the opinions to help her thought process along...

I am an alum of Phi Mu from FSU. I am extremely proud of my sisters and of being a Phi Mu. In regards to your friend that has the bid....I would encourage her to come and hang around the girls and see if she is comfortable. I can provide you or her with the contact information of the appropriate people so she can get to know the girls better and decide for herself. I know that my sisters would love to get to know her better and would welcome her into our house. Obviously since she received a bid my sisters feel that she would fit in well. On a side note, I went to the Phi Mu holiday party this past week and also to see one of my friends go through her senior ceremony and the new pledge class seems to be having a very good time and the sisterhood is doing wonderfully (If you need to e-mail me please direct it to the address listed in my profile)

FSU has a very competitive greek system, and all of the houses are great. Only about two of them didn't reach quota during recruitment, but they are still doing well and getting better each year. I would encourage your friend to join Phi Mu if she feels comfortable there. Going through recruitment a second time may limit her choices of houses. Phi MU might not even give her a bid the second time if they know she refused it the first. Overall, all houses are great, girls just need to find the one where they fit in the best.
