I don't know because a lot of women who try out for Ms. FAT are women of color. That is also the majority of Monique's fan base. I think as it becomes more popular then you will probably see other ethnicities competing.

I guess I had that thought because there were a few contestants who were not of color, one of which made it to the top 5. But both years the top 2 have been of color...

I don't mean disrespect to any race when I say this, but I really think Black women carry weight better then most white women do. It goes to the right places on them (boobies and booties) where as on white women like me, it goes to my tummy, hips and arm flab.

I thought Sharon was going to win until Joanna gave her emotional answer in the end. I hope this becomes a stepping stone in Joanna's pursuit of a music career. Maybe she can be Effie in the Dreamgirls movie!
I think the show could have another title. I do love Monique and Queen Latifah. Toccarra is also someone that makes me feel like you can be beautiful and thick at the same time. I am a size 18/20 and I used to be a 14/16 all my life. I really had a hard time not being that size again after I had a child but I am learning to love me as me at this size.

If only that were true...lol...but I see your point! I'm a lot heavier now since (high school/college)...and am struggling to get back to a 12...I'm a 14/16...sometimes 16/18 - depends on who makes the clothes and where I get it from.

I did a radio story about my idol Mo'Nique and her then new movie "Phat Gurlz" and I've been watching the show since it started. I'm really excited to watch it with my mentors on Saturday!!! I'm glad she promotes us fabulous and thick women as prominent role models and not size conscious women media wants us to be. Thanks Mo!

Good point. And I also think it is much more socially acceptable for women of color to be larger. Besides our plusher beauties like Mo, QL, Jenn Hudson, LaTanya Richardson, Chandra Wilson, Angie Stone, Jilly from Philly, Tocci, etc., look at the celebration of people like Sara Ramirez (Grey's Anatomy. I don't consider America Ferrara full-figured; she's a very short size 8 or so).

Any breakthrough would be if the wider society starts accepting a larger woman as a leading lady/hot starlet, rather than a character-type actress, and we are light-years away from that, IMO, despite some size acceptance efforts.
