There was a small article in today's "Daily Break" section, in the Entertainment section. It made it sound like her announcement yesterday (which I missed) was to say what everyone already knew....She was not coming back!

I was not prepared for the new opening with no Star picture, let alone no Star. (YES! I don't have to look at that alien face anymore. I have to agree 150% with everyone that she looked a lot better pre-weight loss and plastic surgery.) Then, to hear what Barbara had to say....I was just floored.

If you watched regularly, you could tell that there was some irritation (by Joy) when Star name-dropped, talked only about herself, etc. While it would have been nice to see Rosie and Star together, oil & vinegar anyone?

So here are a couple of thoughts I have had....
  1. Was Star upset that she didn't get the send-off like Meredith?
  2. Is this the end of "The View"?

Knowing the ego Star Jones has I bet she is pissed that she didn't get the send off Meredith got. But the thing is....

people like Meredith, I'm not sure people really like Star.

As for The View being over, who knows. I think Rosie will be a good replacement because she is funny and has very strong opinions (remember the incident with Tom Sellack after the Columbine shootings). But they have to find someone equally as good to take over for Star.

Does anyone else remember/know who was in the running to take over for Meredith before Rosie was chosen?

Sorry but Rosie will KILL this show...not that it wasn't already on the way out. Typically when you bring into the fold people like her, its a last ditch effort to revive a sinking ship.

Star should have gotten a send off as big as Meredith - goodness she was one of the original cast members and well liked by many! If it was Joy leaving I'd say the same thing. Big ego or not that would have been the appropriate thing to do even if Star's departure wasn't under the best of terms.

But whatever - I give this mess one last season even though I stopped wathing years ago.

Everytime I see Star Jones, I swear I'm looking at a drag queen.
I'm sorry, it's ugly to say, but it's the truth.

This whole thing is getting wierd.

I saw something in one of the broadcasting trade BB's today in which Barbara Walters says she really wished Star had stayed with the show.

Star says she feels she was fired.

Then Walters admits her (Star's) contract wasn't going to be renewed by the "higher ups" in ABC. Then Barbara says she tried to get the "bosses" to relent -- until Star made her announcement (literally one commercial break earlier than planned) on the air and Walters said she feels she was ambushed -- or something to that effect.

Strange people.

This is just incorrect. Prior to her getting married she always took the 'marrige isn't for everyone/some people are happy and satisfied w/their lives w/o being married' stance. She never did the complaining 'there are no good black men left' thing.

I don't see what folks are talking about as far as saying that she has an attitude/ego. To begin with this show has had incredible success from the begining with Star. People may not like her new weight loss or how she handled her wedding, but her personality has been a part of what has made the show a hit. Also, part of the appeal of the show is that they all have different personalities that often disagree. This is life, and perhaps is quite similar to our dynamic here on the board. We have those who are informed and act as mediators, those w/strong opinions, those who just talk but don't really add anything, old people, and then folks like Elizabeth who don't even know the day of the week. I mean that is the premise of the show. Everybody shouldn't be the same. Whether or not you identify with anyone of the characters or not doesn't mean that they deserve the shady exit that they gave her.

On a side note: Rosie sucks azz. Elizabeth is a ditz. Joy doesn't really know what she's talking about. Barbara is never there. What appeal is left now? W/o Meredith and Star it's gonna be the blind leading the blind.

Star knew about this a LOOOOONG time ago. They were going to let her say "I am leaving to be a professional skydiver" or whatever and NOT mention that it was ABC's decision not hers - the cohosts AND the network. All the cohosts thought she would tell them what she was going to do - instead she springs it on national TV on Tuesday without telling her coworkers. Mainly so she can get publicity. I don't blame Baba for being pissed. Star showed her true colors. It was the equivalent of leaving a message with your boss the day before a big presentation saying you were quitting and wouldn't be in the next day.

What was the big presentation? They're on summer hiatus. Half the time they show reruns?? What is there to wait around for?

They wanted her to announce her departure on tomorrow's show. Instead, she decided to just make the announcement 2 days earlier. She was asked to stay until mid-July, but after making her departure announcement, they asked her not to come back. So basically yesterday was her last day on The View. She was on the phone at a radio station and explained what went down.

Why is everyone on here acting like Star did Barbara, et al.some great injustice? She simply decided not to have them screw her around anymore. I say good for her. My Soror will continue to do well in her professional career.

Ummmm, it was an analogy.

I meant that it showed the same level of inconsideration and unprofessionalism. Even if you hate your boss, even if you can't wait to leave, you don't leave people hanging and burn your bridges like that because it can come back to haunt you.

And unless Baba, Joy and Elisabeth were instrumental in getting her fired, she should have been a little more considerate and told them what she was planning on doing.

Read the post above yours. She made her announcement 2 days early (though it was known for quite some time that Rosie would be joining the show and that Star would not be retained as a part of the cast - for weeks). THEY then made the decision to make yesterday her last day. The breach was on their parts.

Thank you ABC! And not a moment too soon I never watched the view but when I was forced to, I was bored to death. Now all that's left is for the show to end, then it will be a good day

Evidently Barbara Walters was trying to help Star by convincing the higher-ups at ABC to keep her and that's why they were waiting until Thursday to announce the departure. It seems like Star was just trying to spin it to look like she was leaving the show as the "hurt party", especially by running to People magazine and a radio station right after yesterday's show.
