New Star Trek Movie

I just heard moments ago on the news that JJ Abrams (Lost, Alias, Mission Impossible 3) will be directing (and co-writing) a 4th movie. (Since they said 4 on the news I'm assuming they are talkin TNG cast). But get this, they have no cast yet?!? Or a script.

I have to say I'm surprised (for a couple of reasons)...

1) Nemesis really seemed to tie things up for me. Troi and Riker got married (which I had been waiting for since the series ended). Data "sacrificed" himself.

2) When Nemesis came out the producers said they wouldn't do another movie unless Nemesis did good at the box office. Nemesis got number 2 (Maid in Manhattan was number 1). MM made like 30 million and Nemesis made like 29 million.

Depending on the cast and the story, I'll probably end of seeing it.

Supposed to be released early 2008

I read somewhere that they are going to go back to "the beginning" and show how Captain Kirk and Spock met (or something like that...it was an article on CNN.com). I have to admit, I have mixed feelings about the new one. I agree with ASUADPi...'Nemesis' wrapped up a lot of things for me. I really can't see a movie coming after it in the timeline.

Unless it picks up where the Deep Space Nine cast left off. They still have a huge franchise out there for a movie continuation....IF they don't let the cast get too old in the meantime.

Or even Voyager would be better than TNG cast

Like oceanphi01 said, I also read that the new Star Trek movie would involve the original series cast.

What I read was the timeline would be when Kirk and Spock first met at Starfleet Acadamy.

So they would probably have to get new actors to play those roles then. I don't think shatner can pull it off.

You don't think a 70 year old Shatner can pull off playing a 20 year old??!!! For shame! He's the greatest actor of all time!

In theory, that would be great...I would become addicted quickly...but how would they keep it interesting?

And because I LOVE Voyager, I would go see that movie opening night...maybe even stand in line for weeks prior just to get tickets. (Okay, not really, but you get the picture...)

Star Trek meets 90210.

Sounds like another score for UPN.
