I think folks are scared that a 7 year old knows the unpretty version of history and that she is using her enlightenment and talent to enlighten others.

I think discussing race and being racist are two different things. I think the poem is controversial because it discusses race.

The answer has been provided in above responses...
to break it down.....its controversial b/c people were not expected a 7 yo girl to have such an accurate accounting of history and fact....that made them nervous
