This is her bio:
I, Monae Hamilton, am a senior at Shaw University who is majoring in Mass Communication. My major is mass communication with a concentration in the production field. I also have a minor in Sociology. In the future, I plan to pursue a career in the television production industry as a documentary filmmaker and/or program director. My documentaries will consist of aspects in society that the media is reluctant to tell the public. It is my belief that the public’s right to know surpasses what the government does not want you to know. By combining mass communication and sociology, I believe that the messages in my productions will have more of an impact on the audience. By understanding society and how people interact in society, a producer is able to artistically and accurately portray certain events.
I was born in Bronx, New York on February 14, 1984. I am the daughter of Angela Conyers and Victor Hamilton, and I have two sisters. My eldest sister is Natelle and my youngest sister is Victoria. I also acknowledge my stepfather Johnnie Conyers and my stepmother Idalis Vasquez for their ongoing love and support. I spent 18 years of my life in New York before relocating to North Carolina to come to Shaw University. In 2002, I graduated with honors from the High School of Graphic Communication Arts in Manhattan, New York. Although my school was notorious for gang violence and statistically suffering from student drop outs, I stayed in my books. Upon graduation I was ranked number 7 out of a class of more than 160 students, and I was awarded a New York Urban League Scholarship.
As I matriculate through Shaw University, I have been able to maintain my high academic standards with an overall GPA of a 3.9. Not to mention the numerous accolades I have received from the university during awards day. Such acknowledgements include, Outstanding Student in Mass Communication, and certificates and gold medals for academic achievement. I just received the UNCF Foot Locker Foundation Scholarship, and the Capitol Broadcasting Company Scholarship for the academic years of 2005-2006. In my junior year, I was given the opportunity to intern at WUNC-TV, channel 4 in Research Triangle Park, NC. While at this PBS affiliate station, I had hands on experience with the inner workings of the television industry. I spent the majority of the summer at the station, but resigned when school began to dedicate my time to Shaw University. I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, and was elected Miss Shaw University 2005-2006.
Leadership is an entity that is not lacking in my life either. I was the President of the National Broadcasting Society, a peer trainer at my job, and a peer tutor on campus. Education is something that I do not take for granted. Although my road to college seemed set, like with most students, financial hardships became a factor. However, it is my belief that education is an investment and you will only receive what you put into it. In closing, I lives by this motto, “A woman whose glory is categorized only by beauty will never harvest the rewards of life. She is a slave to her own mind and she is bound by the manacles of society. She is therefore oblivious to wisdom, and she does not realize that popularity is the adversary to intellect.
SHE HAS A 3.9...WOW...NOW THAT IS SCHOLARSHIP FO YO @zz..
