Lightbulb Appreciation Night

Hey, I'm new to this site. First off I just wanted to say hi to all the lovely Chi Omega's! I'm a new memeber and I can't tell you how much I love it! I feel right at home in Chi O.
Second, in our chapter we have an Appreciation Night before initiation. We call it a Skit n' Dinner and all the new members make up a little performance and cook and go all out for all the actives who've spoiled us during our new member period. We have to start planning it and I was wondering if any other chapters did this type of thing, and if you all had any creative ideas so my pledge class can show these ladies how happy we are to be part of their chapter and how much we appreciate them?

We called it active surprise. Usually dinner (or some sort of food) was involved but we didn't do skits. One year the pledges had us meet at the new park on campus, told us they had bought us a brick in the sidewalk (with our letters on it) and gave us all christmas stockings with our names on them, filled with candy. Another year, they got us rocking chairs, candy, and did something else, I can't remember. One year they bought a cdplayer/radio for the house, another was a photo/room divider thing. When I was a pledge, we broke into teams with the actives and did a scavenger hunt. (I was suprised at how into it they were! Boy were they competitive!) I blanking on the specifics of what else we did, I'll post them if I remember.

But I want to add that the pledges were not allowed to pay for any of the items (gifts, food, etc.) with their own money. There was money in our budget set aside for active surprise, around $300 I think.

HAVE FUN!! And welcome to Chi Omega!

Hey ChiO-QT!!!
Welcome to our area of Greek Chat! We are so glad you found this site (and Chi Omega!)

We did not have appreciation night but at our pledge dance, we sang the theme to St. Elmo's Fire but changed the words so it was dedicated to the actives.

How did your new member period go? Are you initiated yet? Let us know if we can help you out or answer any questions you may have.

Love in Chi Omega, Sue

Thanks so much for the feedback. Does anyone have any ideas for some cute, creative, and inexpensive gifts that we could give the actives? We have to think of skits and everything for this event, but I'm looking forward to it!

To answer the earlier question, my new member period has been the best! I couldn't have asked for anything more. We got our big sisters just a few weeks ago, and I absolutely love mine! I am getting a big brother soon as well. Our chapter doesn't hold initiation until after Christmas break is over. I believe ours is the third week of January. I'm so excited! I absolutely love being part of Chi Omega. Our pledge class is getting a little more eager for initiation!

Welcome Chi Oqt!

When I was a pledge we didn't have a skit like you were saying. But we got them flowers, made cookies, tagged our big's car, and just did little sweet things for them to thank them for C-H-I-O week.

I have found that paint pens are a necessity for every sorority girl! They're the best things to use to personalize ANYTHING! Picture frames, photo alums, vases, cups, tupperware- you get the idea.
