We're doing informal recruitment right now, and tonight we're having a Mexican Xiesta - salsa and dip, chips, non-alcoholic margarita punch and a pinata breaking.
Asfar as actual "COB" events we've done, last semester, one of our new members met another girl in her class, and told her about us. To make a LONG story short, a few phone calls were made and basically we just took the girl to dinner. Talked to her about who we were, what we did, what we were all about. About a week later, we had a Family and Friends information night, whcih we invited her to again. We extended her a bid that night, and she accepted.
of course, at a school like mine, I think the whole individual one on one works better than planned events. I think my chapter and the other sorority on campus are going to attempt to do a major overhaul this semester when we establish an "official" panhellenic. Informal recruitment in the spring just does not work on my campus. It's a fact. Before my advisor gets on here and chews me out, Trish - you know its the truth, its not a bad pessimistic attitude, its just the truth. The fact is, its a small school anyway, and the pickings in the spring are slim anyway. Why waste our money on supplies for events when it works better for me to meet a girl in class and ivnte her to dinner and make a few phone calls to see if other sisters can join me?
Other COB events we've done in the past were bowling and mary kay parties - but the mary kay party TOTALLY did not work on my campus of engineering minded girls. Maybe on a more liberal arts campus it would work great. i dunno.
We've had TONS of ideas - they just dont work on my campus. EVen with PR out the wazoo, it's very difficult.
