COB Suggestions ???

I will be heading up membership for my Chapter this next semester and I am wondering if you ladies could help me out with some fun ideas for COBs? What has worked well? Which ones were your favorite? Thanks!

We're doing informal recruitment right now, and tonight we're having a Mexican Xiesta - salsa and dip, chips, non-alcoholic margarita punch and a pinata breaking.

Asfar as actual "COB" events we've done, last semester, one of our new members met another girl in her class, and told her about us. To make a LONG story short, a few phone calls were made and basically we just took the girl to dinner. Talked to her about who we were, what we did, what we were all about. About a week later, we had a Family and Friends information night, whcih we invited her to again. We extended her a bid that night, and she accepted.

of course, at a school like mine, I think the whole individual one on one works better than planned events. I think my chapter and the other sorority on campus are going to attempt to do a major overhaul this semester when we establish an "official" panhellenic. Informal recruitment in the spring just does not work on my campus. It's a fact. Before my advisor gets on here and chews me out, Trish - you know its the truth, its not a bad pessimistic attitude, its just the truth. The fact is, its a small school anyway, and the pickings in the spring are slim anyway. Why waste our money on supplies for events when it works better for me to meet a girl in class and ivnte her to dinner and make a few phone calls to see if other sisters can join me?

Other COB events we've done in the past were bowling and mary kay parties - but the mary kay party TOTALLY did not work on my campus of engineering minded girls. Maybe on a more liberal arts campus it would work great. i dunno.

We've had TONS of ideas - they just dont work on my campus. EVen with PR out the wazoo, it's very difficult.

Some of the COB's that we have do are:

1) Mary Kay Make-Over Night - we invited one of our girls cousin and she helped us out. Gave us tip on make-up and stuff if we wanted the tips. It was really fun.

2) Coffee Night - Met at the local coffee place and had girls go and meet us.

3) Ice Cream Night - we took them to the best place in town for ice cream. It's so much fun.

4) We have also taken some PNM's on our retreat. The get a chance to see how the girls interact.

5) Game Room Night - took the girls to the campus game room to play pool and whatever games there were.

6) We also planned another Open house. It's was a smaller scale of what we did for recruitment.

7) We have also invited some girls to going us at socials and different events that we planned.

there's more that we have done but I can't remember right now.

we did what was called "Starlight Evening" at the end of COB. kinda of like a mini pref ceremony. We extended bids to girls that have been down previous and invited other girls to see the more serious side of us.

Last spring we had McAllister's Nights. Every sister was placed in a group of about 6 sisters. Every Thursday night a different group would go to McAllister's for dinner. The goal was to have a specific time for sisters to bring a girl they met in class, on campus, in their dorm, etc to meet other sisters. We actually averaged about 10-12 sisters. Some weeks we even had a few alumnae come. It was a wonderful way for PNMs to met our chapter in an informal setting and it was also a wonderful opportinity for members of our chapter to become closer. I actually went almost every week. We initiated 12 women that semester.
