Rather than start a new thread...
My "baby" will soon be initiated!!! I was wondering if any of you had some suggestions for a gift I could give her? I'd like something that will be meaningful to her (even though I may not know WHY!) OR something that she is unlikely to receive or buy for herself. She is SOOOO into DG!!! I want to share in her happiness and this is the only way I can.
Thanks for any ideas you can share!

My mum sent me flowers for Initiation, and it made me so happy! Also, I think there are some things from the Anchor Trader listed online at www.deltagamma.org.

CutiePie2000 and RxyChrldr, thanks for the suggestios and the
links! She wears silver, would it be OK to get the drop in silver?
Does anyone wear charms? I like the idea of flowers, but they might die before she go them. Her roommate (DZ) has initiation that same weekend I think. No access to the Anchora, but I'll look at the links THANKS!

sorry to invade your board but just wanted to say congrats. My grandmother was a DG and at one time she was honored as the oldest member that was still living (this was in the late 70's). I wish they had had DG at A&M when I pledged b/c I have read her diary and it is so neat to see how into DG she was.

The website USED TO HAVE Delta Gamma stuff on it and you could view it, but they're revamping their website and it is taking ages. Grrr.... That is why you can't find any parapharnalia (sp?) on there for purchase!
The drop in silver sounds lovely. I have seen it in both gold and silver. (I have a gold one myself with the Delta Gamma letters, but silver would be beautiful too!)
Some Delta Gamma symbols are the anchor, our letters, the rose and also the Raggedy Ann doll (she is called "Hannah"). Also anything pink and blue is very "Delta Gamma'ish!!"
Is there a boutique nearby you that might sell Greek logo stuff?
You could even get something embroidered with "Delta Gamma" on it or something like that. Also, if you go onto "ebay", you can find some jewellery, like rings and stuff like that.
Hope that this helped!! :-)

Sure did help! I also found a thread on GC search "Greek Gifts" and I think it was the AGD forum that had like 5 or 6 links.
We have a student union, but it's very small. I'm kind of torn between the drop and the sweatshirt now. Hmmmm. Our big deal was a jersey with letters and I remember I couldn't wait to wear it.
Oh gee, I'll think of somethng. Thanks for all the help!!!

Justamom,
I'm not sure if this is the same at every chapter (I think it is), but our big thing was getting something with the crest on it for initiation. Because you are not allowed to have anything with the crest on it until you are initiated. I know alot of our girls get really pretty discs to wear on a necklace with the crest engraved on it. Just a thought...Tell your daughter i said congrats!

I like that idea!
One thing she told me that sounded so odd happened at Greek Retreat this past weekend. EVERY GLO and BGLO was represented. They broke them into groups to do skits and their group(all new membes) decided to go with a serious note. It was about the values Greek life helps you develop. All but her said a line from their creed. She said they(DG) were told not to speak the creed outside of chapter (even though it can be printed) Is that a local custom? It's OK if you can't respond to that!!! So, for her part she simply said, "Do Good". I have no doubt she said it with great drama! LOL They ended their skit by saying these are the values you have instilld in us. Are they still instilled in you?
They all got such a tremendous response. The actives couldn't believe the stength of the new members!

Thanks all! My daughter is such a pickle head! First she says one thing then another! I still haven't gotten anything for her. (shhh-she has been in a rather FOUL mood- Lots of swinging emotions)
Now she wants to send a Greek catalogue home. Oh well, I feel like it's past the surprise point. Some days you just can't read your kids. ANYWAY, Ill figure out which pages ar more worn thn the others since she won't give me a clue as to what she is interested in!
