Any service sororities out there?
I was just wondering with so many social sororities out there are there any service sorority sisters to connect to? At my university we are the only service sorority and it feels great to stick out and feel proud of our purpose.
So any other sister out there...talk to me!!

Hey fellow sister in service! Didn't want to leave you hanging so I thought I'd say hello. I'm a proud member of the maroon and white, Gamma Sigma Sigma. We're a national service sorority. I too know what its like what its like to be, let's say, unique on campus. Feel free to drop me a line sometime.

My chapter was founded about 2 years ago. We actually just recieved our charter last april and became the Zeta Sigma Chapter.
Also, i'm assuming that your mascot is the penguin, because our chapter mascot happens to be the penguin too!

Check www.NPHC.org
Yes, there is a social element...but the foundation of all of the NPHC Sororities and Fraternities is service.

Is every reply you post elitist, obnoxious and rude? I am referring to the above comment and the "PAPER" comment from another board.

Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-ed service fraternity. Gamma Sigma Sigma is also national, and recognized by some (but not all) APO chapters as their sister sorority.
You can join APO or GSS in addition to a social fraternity or sorority. They do have social aspects but their primary focus and reason for being is SERVICE.
Carmel Treat....I think I know where you're coming from. At SOME schools, these 2 orgs operate as a BGLO, have a call, etc. But they were not founded as HBGLO's. Does that clear things up?

GSS Girl....
You seem to have a habit of being disrespectful towards other organizations. Last time (on another thread) you called an AKA Line, and any line like it, PAPER because they had a large line, and now you are challenging the principles that GLO's are founded on....Not good.
As a member of a GLO, I am sure that whatever the process you went through gave you a respect of GLO's, and I think you might want to display it more on this board. No one has the right to disrespect other peoples organizations, and I think you would want the same courtesy given to GSS. The people on this board also try to maintain a code of conduct and ethics that preserves respect to one another as individuals as well as members of their respective organizations. You should really try to adopt that code as well. Finally, if you do have such a problem with AKA, or what you consider PAPER lines, it is interesting that your call seems to be a combination of an AKA Skee-Wee, and a Delta OO-OOP! As a Delta, I see that as ummmmm.... Very interesting. I will leave it at that FOR NOW....I'll probably come back to that one later. Be more mindful in the future. Thanks!

Hello again ladies...
Yes, you can join a "social" sorority if you are already a member of a service sorority. My sorority, Gamma Sigma Sigma, for example, has many members that are also members of other sororities such as AKA, Delta, and so on. Also, my sorority WAS NOT founded as a BGLO. It is true, however, that some chapters have a sign and call.
As for the call we use...soror6, there is a unique story behind it and how it came to be. It's not a "knock-off" at all although that is what it looks like first off. No disrespect to either the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha or Delta Sigma Theta. If you have any other questions about Gamma Sig, please feel free to email me and I'll answer them as best as I can.
Once again to my sister GSSGirl, you are being quite disrespectful on the board. You and I should know, we don't like it when other organizations have something negative to say about us, let's not return that negativity because it gets us nowhere. Each organization is DESERVING of respect. And remember, the cyberworld is not as "anonymous" as you think.
To all the sisters on the board, I apologize for GSSGirl. This isn't what my sorority is about...trust me!
With Service, Friendship & Equality,
U.I.S.
