Belmar, NJ, bans beer pong
Drinking game prohibited in N.J. town:-
BELMAR, N.J. | September 05, 2005 2:12:04 AM IST
_
A New Jersey town has prohibited outdoor drinking games, ending a popular summer activity.
Twenty-eight-old-year Rob Failla says the Labor Day holiday would not be the same without his usual beer-pong tournament that drew dozens, the New York Times reported Sunday.
It was a social activity; something to do, Failla said. We were loud, sure, but it's summer -- a time to have fun.
Year-round Belmar, N.J., residents found the late-night noise and the litter associated with the game annoying and a nuisance.
In beer-pong teams on opposite sides of a table try to toss Ping-Pong balls into their opponents' cups of beer -- a successful toss means that the team holding the cup must drink the beer. The team whose cups are drunk first loses.
We want to change the frat image this town has, said Belmar Mayor Kenneth E. Pringle. We are more interested in people who want to come here and raise a family than we are people who want to come and raise hell for a week.

Yes because it's only "Frat Boys" that play drinking games such as Beer Pong
Guess that means the my great uncle, my father and uncles, and well me and my brothers and sister are all "Frat Boys" because we like to play the odd drinking game at the cottage during the summer - or during the NHL playoffs.
ETA> Actually as I sit here typing on my back porch I can here a game being played about 3 houses down - and from the sounds of it one team is getting killed (or their braincells are)

Yeah, that ban started earlier in the summer. Belmar has been desperatly trying to change its image. Last summer they cracked down on the "Animal Houses." The mayor doesn't understand the people who rent the houses aren't there for a week- they are there for the whole summer. Tons of violations were issued last year and a ton more were issued next year. I don't really see Belmar turning into a year round, raise a family kind of place though. There are very few such places- only ones that come to mind are Ocean City and Ocean Grove. And both of those have historical roots that make them so.
I hate to admit it, but the reason Belmar is being refered to as a 'frat town' is because typically the people who live in Belmar for the summer are recent college grads, who work in Northern NJ/NYC and yeah are typically Greeks in college. It doesn't take a genuis to figure out that when 5 people move into a house, and they all still have letters on there car, uhh yeah Greeks live here. I've meet more Greeks while partying in Belmar than I think while in college. Like it or not, there is a party image associated with Greek Life. Is it fair? No. But thats the way it goes down.
And the only thing the mayor probably knows about Greeks is Animal House, hence saying the town has a "frat" image and calling houses with noise violations "Animal Houses." Like it or not, thats what most of America thinks too.

Maybe they should just play inside.
Actually, I have never played beer pong outside. We do these things indoors in Texas cause the wind outside would cause too much interference.
