Pig Parties

My dad was telling me about an old tradition in his fraternity. They had a party every year, where the object was to bring the ugliest date there. There was some prize for the winner, a bottle of liquor or something.

Has anyone else heard of this? Do houses still do it?

Before I get flamed, let me note that I have no intentions of suggesting this to my chapter, it is just morbid curiosity that makes me ask.

Angry Sad but true

The fraternity I hung out with the most had a "troll party" every year where the brother/pledge with the least attractive date won a prize. I never did condone this and I certainly don't now; I think it is terrible. Remember though, this was eons ago and I seriously doubt whether this still goes on.

I have never heard of a party for those reasons. I would assume the women would catch on sooner or later....

I have seen awards given out at Formals and such about the same...a bit imature is an understatement!

I've never heard of a "pig party" like that -- how terrible for those girls!!

My dad told me that his fraternity used to have a "red-headed formal" every year where the brothers were told that morning to find a girl with red hair to bring to a dance taking place that night.

My dad went to a school that was, at the time, made up almost completely of men so the brothers had to really scramble to find a girl to take to the dance. Of course, the girls didn't know the real reason they were being asked --- although I'm sure it became very obvious the moment they arrived at the party.

This type of party is no longer done by my dad's fraternity at his alma mater, thank goodness! How cruel to let a girl think you're interested in her when she is really just the butt of a joke!

While I agree a pig party is offensive, I dont see this one as bad, particularly as I'm partial to redheads. I think the key would be to find a girl you're interested in who just happens to have red hair. Would non natural redheads count for this btw?

Yeah. Red hair on girls is pretty. Especially when its curly, and sometimes a strand or two will fall out of place, and the curls are on their cheek, and you brush out of the way for them. Well, you try to, then she reminds you she has a boyfriend. And he's so much better than you cuz he lives Califronia and is a lawyer and was top of his class at UVA law school. OOOOOO wow. LIke i couldn't top that.

I agree, GmuTeke, it's definitely not as bad as a pig party. The only thing I disagree with about the concept is that the girls weren't told why they were being asked to the dance. They assumed that the guys were really interested in them (I'm sure some were, but others definitely weren't), and found out once they arrived that any girl with red hair would suffice as a date. I would feel terrible if it were me!

(btw: yes, I think non-natural redheads would have counted)

I dont knoe about Pig parties, but I have heard of a loser party, where you invite the not so popular fraternities and sororities on campus without letting on to what it was. This guy in a frat we alwasy hung with got up and told hi soanish class they were having one and what "loser orgs." he was inviting. He happen to mention ours and one of my new sisters was in his class. He didnt know she was an AGD though. Lets just say it wasnt pretty when we found out (we were far from one of the "loser" ones on campus). Anyways no one showed up to the party from any sorority or fraternity or GDI's. Just goes to show who the real losers are when you throw parties like that.

No pig parties here, although one of our fraternities on campus used to put numbers on the backs of girls' hands when they came to parties to signal how attractive they are, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest...found that out after I pledged. Oh the joys I got a 4, so I was ok

No pig parties here. We have to register all parties with the school. I don't think the concept of inviting only ugly girls would go over so well with the greek administrators. I have heard rumors that some of the fraternities have lists of the good-looking girls from each sorority. They also have a seperate lists where each brother writes down the name of the sorority girl they hooked-up with. It's almost like their brag list. I really hope that's not true.

i have nothing to do at work which is why im posting alot, but there was a frat that gave wrist bands to good looking girls so they could get back in to the party (this was after the whole greek system down fall with the Courtney Cantor incident im sure you all know about) well i went with my roomates and a guy put one on me, my roomate after me didnt get one and she looked at me and asked me if i was special or something..... So ive heard of keeping tabs on pretty girls and crap.

I also know onw frat at their meetings holds a bragging session and all the guys write down and talked about who they hooked up with over the weekend.

I doubt they would be dumb enough to write it down but heck most guys in general like to brag who they been with.

Umm, how would you determine if they are "natural" or not? Wait, don't answer that.
