Talking Going to Arizona!

I am elated. I just bought tix to fly to Phoenix. I am staying with a friend from school who is visiting her father over halloween break. We have a nine-day break from school over halloween, cause last year students here rioted, set fires and damaged the town. So we have a halloween break this year.

I am flying to Phx, Wed the 31 in the morning and leaving Nov. 4. I am too excited. I was in Phx this summer, but we spent most of vacation traveling to los angeles. Now, Ill get to see the grand canyon, spend some more time in Tempe and by ASU, and hiking.
And it wont be 120 degrees like it was in July.

If anyone has any must sees, dos or eats fill me in. I'll want to visit the AXO house at ASU. My friend is only 20, so we probably wont do too much bar hopping. But I did hit Fat Tuesdays in Tempe for lunch this summer, and sampled many smoothies !! We also hit all the shops in Tempe - gosh cant wait to go back!

Just a note .. the sororities at ASU don't have houses. The active members live together in dorms.

Enjoy your visit to Arizona. Remember, the Grand Canyon is about a four hour drive from Phoenix and since it is at elevation, the south rim can be cold when in Phoenix its pleasant.

I was out in Arizona about a year ago... unfortunately my husband and I both got sick, so we didn't do everything we'd wanted to.

If you have the $$$ check out the Sunday brunch at the Hyatt in Scottsdale. It's a buffet, but an unusual one... you go into the restaurant's kitchen, and there are things like a salmon plate, cold meats, cheeses, caviar (!) etc. There is also a sushi chef who will make anything you like. And you can ask the chefs to prepare omelets, waffles, eggs, etc. And you get champagne.

The Grand Canyon is, like AZ-AlphaXi said, a considerable drive from Phoenix - not really doable unless you want to make an overnight trip out of it.

We've heard Sedona is nice - that's about a 2 hour drive - but since we got sick, we didn't make it out there.

Enjoy!

AZ-Alpha Xi...

I haven't been around the boards much so you don't know who I am, but I too live in Tucson. I'm a Sigma Kappa here at the UofA, except I went Alum last April. I'm finishing my very last class so I can graduate and get out of here. What are you doing here? Are you in school?

Hi shopgirl .. I've seen your posts and knew there was another Tucsonan here, but had not seen you here for awhile.

I'm not in school. I got my undergraduate degree in 1975 from Western Ky. and my masters in 1981 from Univ. of Ky. I've lived in Tucson since 1984.

yes ... I was born in Lexington and raised in Bowling Green. My dad taught at Western Ky. ..
It was nice being a "faculty brat" .. I chuckled over the "parking on campus is bad" thread ... I had a faculty sticker and could park anywhere ...
hehehehe

Family was originally from Paris, KY and my grandmother was house mother for ZTA at UK in the 50s which is the house that SK now has.

countdown to AZ

I leave in less than a week. On Halloween to be exact.
Were making a day trip to the grand canyon from cave's creek, Arizona on Saturday.

Now, its 90 degrees there.
Right now in Illinois - where I am at its 55 degrees.

Less than 24 hours to go ...

I just have to make it through a 7 hour shift at work. Load all my stuff into my car, drive home to STL, do laundry and head to the airport at 4 a.m.

Its just my luck that the Attorney Gen issues a heightened state of alert as I am about to board four planes this week. Oh well, what can you do?

Am Back!

Its good to be home.

I pulled into my driveway at 8 last night, after two hours in a car and 6 on airplanes. Phoenix was nice as always, I went swimming three days in 85-degree weather. I think it is the first week in a November I have ever swam.

I flew into Arizona Wed. about 11, after being searched extensively in the Memphis Airport. I guess I looked pretty suspicious in my Southern Illinois University sweatshirt and jeans, because out of the 60 or so people at the terminal I was one of three grabbed aside for a search. Not that I am complaining, because I understand what they are doing.

We went into Tempe, home of ASU, and lunched at Gordon Biersh Brewery and strolled some of the shops there. Went to my friends house in Cave Creek, laid out and swam. Went to Kokomo Joe's, a restaurant inspired by Jimmy Buffett. And went to Scottsdale Halloween night. Thursday, we went up in the mountains to Bartlett Lake, and spent the day there. We came back to a biker bar and country bar in Cave Creek, where we watched the baseball game. Friday, welcomed my friends fathers girlfriend into town from Michigan, swam and laid out. Went shopping and out to eat at night, and rented a movie. Saturday, we woke up early and drove to the grand canyon, came back in the afternoon and stopped in Flagstaff. Went out to eat at Humprheys, and went to a wine bar and oxygen bar - there is a first time for everything. Got home, hit the hot tub. Woke up early sunday, and flew to Minneapolis - nice airport - and then to St. Louis.

I'll have pics up sometime.
