Angry The KKK "did a lot of good up here"

Link to the Article

This is a mayor that was elected in the 90s. Sometime I wonder.

Thumbs down

Not everyone from Mississippi (black or white) is a total idiot, unlike this former mayor.

The KKK was a peaceful organization?

Too much moonshine....

Wow - I can't believe he could stand up with a straight face and say he was unaware of the KKK's bloody past.

Then again, I should stop being surprised by some of the things people say.

After a statement like that, I think I'd be taking a look at his and his families closets... just to see how many spare white sheets they have

Seriously, you know the person is full of isht when the first Grand Wizard of the KKK (Nathan Bedford Forrest) resigned his position because he felt the organization was too violent.

Not trying to defend them, but when they weren't lynching people and burning crosses, they sort of used to act like a rotarian type organization -- at least back in the 20's.

Things like white supremacy, anti-Catholicism, etc. were fairly common in those days, so folks didn't think much of these things. I'm not saying it's right, but I think that this is a fairly accurate representation of the attitude of the era.

They virtually ran the state of Oklahoma in the 20's, along with other states. I'm told my great-great grandfather was a member.

If he's referring to the 1920's though, there were a lot of people who believed that their involvement in the Klan was a civic service like the Rotarians, the Junior League or something to that effect. They absolutely did have a dark and evil side though.

And he was a Confederate Cavalry officer (Colonel or General, can't remember which)

Have to agree with several statements from above.

The KKK was not initialy started to Hang "Nigras" but to help preserve the life style of the South from the Carpet Baggers from the North who came down and took over The Land, The Commodity of The South. Economics was the true cause of The Civil War, not freeing The Slaves. Remember, Mayland was a Slave State.

When it became the Violent arm, N B Forrest said enough is enough and left.

Granted The KKK started out as a Political Statement it evolved ito much worse.

Read excerpts from Richard Byrds works who was a Member of The KKK in W V! Oh, He will be the longest searving Member of Congress and one of the Oldest.

Oh, it is nice to sit now and second guess what was in the peoples minds WAY back when. Get over it, it aint happening. It is a done deal, It Is History, It Is Not Going To Change!
