Question Recruitment

Hey Girls-

As you can tell, I am a Gamma Phi. I just have a quick question. There was a rumor going around at my school that the DG's had to wear the Tiffanys Heart bracelet during recruitment. When The president was asked about it, she said it was a national rule that was written in your manuals. She said that Delta Gammas were known for wearing Tiffanys Jewelry. I just find this kind of rediculous. Is this true?

Sincerely-
red hot gphib

I figured it wasn't true. Just thought I would ask. Since the PRESIDENT was the one who tried to cover the rumor with that remark. And yes they all had the bracelet on for recruitment. I just found the whole thing funny, because EVERY girl at my school wears Tiffanys. OH WELL!!!!

It would seem that that chapter (and your entire campus for that matter) has a propensity to wear Tiffany's jewellery, but it absolutely, definitely is NOT in any Delta Gamma manual.

I didn't see it on the website, but I think it is a silver bracelet with a silver heart shaped charm hanging down. But I could be mistaken.

They are talking about the "legally blonde" bracelet. I think the whole rumor got started because Reese wears it in the movie....they got that when they researched a sorority in Cali. (A DG chapter) and they saw that all the girls seemed to have this bracelet and choker. It is a plain heavy chain with a heart tag and a toggle closure. I have almost the same set but it isn't the heart, it is the round tag "Return To Tiffany's" set.

That may just be a U. SoCal thing... I know at USC (S. Carolina), the DG's are known for wearing "sorority beads" (every sorority wears them, but apparently we do more than everyone else)... I'm assuming this is popular at other schools as well. Last year, one of the rushees even went up to our rho chi and told her that she knew she was DG because she was wearing the sorority beads... they suggest that we wear them during rush, but it's not required... that may be what the deal is with the Tiffany's bracelet... that everyone just sort of happens to wear it during rush.

They're the silver beads... they look kind of like silver pearls... It may just be popular in South Carolina, but I know it's not just my school because my sister wore them at Wofford, too. Non-greeks call them "b**** beads," but sorority girls call them "sorority beads."

I was talking to someone else on the general site and she didn't know what jerseys were. They're in the anchor trader, so obviously all DG's wear them, right? Is this not big at other schools?

CarolinaDG, at my school (Spring Hill College in Alabama), we call what you call jerseys (which are t-shirts with greek letters sewn on, right?) letter shirts. But then again, a letter shirt can be just at t-shirt from Bid Day or a party, too. But I know people who go to University of Alabama (no DG chapter there) who call them jerseys like you do. So, I guess it isn't a regional thing, just a weird thing!

As for the sorority beads - I have never heard them reffered to as that before, though I know exactly what you are talking about. And the Tiffany's bracelet and necklace - though saying that DG requires it might help me get one from my parents, I think that is a pretty goofy excuse. Can't you just see our three founders wearing them? "Do good and wear only Tiffany's". LOL.

Jennifer

Well, actually, jerseys are kind of different than letter t-shirts. They're thicker and have white rings on the sleeves... and only short-sleeved.

And as for the Tiffany's necklace... does anyone know how expensive they are, and if you can get a knock off somewhere? I was wanting one, but I'm not sure that I can afford ANYTHING from Tiffany's!

If you look in the Anchor Trader catalog, there is a silver bracelet in there, with a heart shaped charm on it. I think DG is engraved on it.

Mind you, I am sure that MANY sororities offer this bracelet (i.e. DZ, XO, KD, Phi Mu, etc.). I believe that it is made by Burr Patterson and Auld, or another jewellery who is a licenced vendor.
