Urgent! Help! Need Gift Idea!

Help!

My (biological) sister just got engaged and the engagement party is this coming weekend. I can't attend because of plans I made months ago, and I can tell she's feeling hurt by that.

I'm feeling guilty and would like to buy her and her intended a nice engagement gift.

Ideas??? Please????

a silver platter
a crystal picture frame with their wedding date (if they have it set)
a book of love poems
do you have a "people's pottery?" they have some really unique gifts that would be great!

Don't know if this'll work for you here, but this is my gift-giving rule of thumb:

1. Find something that they already have and use a lot.

2. Buy something better.

I've never gone wrong with that strategy.

As someone currently planning a wedding, I can tell you -- anything off of your sister's registry would be fabulous! Even the most mundane things are special to me because I know that someone took the time to look up what we needed/wanted before they made a purchase.

One of my DZ sisters who just got married received a TON of engraved picture frames and things like that -- which are all really nice and definitely wonderful keepsakes-- but she could have used things from her registry more (like her everyday dinnerware).

Don't get me wrong... I feel that any gift is ALWAYS appreciated. However, with a registry gift you just can't go wrong. Good luck!!

Maybe in addition to a nice engagement gift. You could get your sister a little private gift just for her. Something sentimental like a sisters frame, with a picture of you both. Just something that would mean a lot to her. Hallmark should have a sappy card about losing a sister to marriage. With everything going on while preparing for the wedding. These little things meant the most to my sister.

Since I do not know her personally, I cannot suggest anything specific. But, if she is already registered, something really nice off of the registry would be good. If not, you could get her something that WOULD be on her registry once she makes it like a Kitched-Aid stand mixer or something.

If you have any pics of you and her when you were younger, you could take it to Kinko's and have a card made out of it and write a sweet note to her about how much you love her and you wish you could be there. I would like that

There are the ideas that came to me:

1) A cooking class or a gift certificate for some cooking classes

2) Gift certs/cards for dinner out

3) Gift certs for hotel rooms (Marriott has monetary gift checks in $25, $50, $100 increments.)

4) Gift cert for spa days

5) Movie passes for local theaters

6) Tickets to a play/concert they may want to see

8) I suggested this before...if they are Christian, how about an ornament that says "Our First Christmas" and put their names?
