hi everyone,
i'm going to be a sophomore at a BIGTEN school and have decided to rush! my school has many chapters and people tell me it is fairly competitive. so far i have recs for 3 different houses. i have a 3.28 gpa and am in engineering. i was very involved in highschool and was top 5% of my class, so I am hoping they will still look at highschool stuff even though I am a sophomore. I wasn't invovled in any school related activities, I kinda took break from always being busy, but I really miss it (which a big reason why I want to join a sorority). my boyfriend pledged a frat last semester, so I got to do some social greek stuff and I really liked it. I came to college with many of my close friends but really want to meet new people this year. since im a sophmore my mind is already tainted with stereotypes, but i'm pretty good at looking past that kind of stuff. I have about 6 houses that as of now I would be extremely happy to be apart of. I'm trying hard not to make judgements right away, basically because I don't my hopes shattered. but i cant help being drawn to these few houses. I'm a little freaked out about being crazily cut, but am pretty optimistic right now. i'll keep you all updated. can't wait!

best wishes for a successful recruitment.

sometimes sororities expect prospective members to get involved on campus-
and they are looking for activites and clubs that sophomores/juniors have participated in while at college.if that topic comes up in conversation, put a positive spin on it, just as you did in your post. tell them that you were so involved in high school that you had decided to give yourself a break, especially since you are an engineering major. then tell them how much you missed being involved, and how much you are looking forward to participating clubs and activities this year.

I know - that's what set me into my depression! That, and the fact that my a/c broke yesterday and it will be over 100 again today.

Good luck this fall. It's great to hear that you're trying to keep an open mind about all the chapters, even though you've heard all the stereotypes and stories already.

Oh I can sympathize with that! I'm in Texas, it was 104 for 5 days straight, the AC broke in my apartment and my landlord wouldn't answer the phone! It was completely unlivable. AND THEN the AC repairman tried to make ME pay for it. dear...

I went through rush as a sophomore at a Big Ten school. I got cut heavily after the first round, but then it evened out. Just be positive and give everyone a chance. Good Luck!!!
