VMAs

Ummm... who is that guy Brittany spears hugs when she gets her two VMAs... and they said she was going to open the show... introducing Rhanna is not opening the show... VMAs last year with the parties throughout the hotel was so much better.

There are all these youngies on here... I feel so old.

For years the VMAs and even the Movie Awards have declined. It seems like they try to out do themselves, but it just looks tacky.

I miss the one with Jimmy Fallon (wasn't it the VMAs?), that was my favorite awards show.

He did the MTV Movie Awards with Kirsten Dunst once, and then solo another year. I don't think he did the VMAs, but I know he did a spoof on it.

I missed the beginning so I was wondering how Britney would "open" the show after everyone said she wouldn't be performing.

I need to preface this next part of the post by saying, I'm not trying to dogg on Britney's latest album, but as someone who does enjoy her "music" or whatever you want to call it for working out & jamming out & stuff, I didn't enjoy her latest album a huge deal. "Piece of Me" was actually nothing compared to some of her other hit songs/videos(that never won VMAs). (Sorry that was the longest run on sentence ever). Does anyone else get the feeling that MTV is "throwing her a bone" (or two or three) by nominating her and even awarding these Moon Men to her? I guess the "winners" were selected by votes, but those other songs are honestly way more popular than "Piece of Me' ever was.

Anyway... did anyone see Christina Aguilera perform? I have heard that song but I had no idea it was her. I think she did a good job and she looks great. Some people will say she's "fat" but I don't think she's fat at all. She's def. not as skinny as she used to be, but I think the few lbs look good on her.

ETA: I'm just glad it wasn't the Jonas Bros that won... LOL

Yes! I posted this on the "What are you thinking" thread. I've never HEARD of Pieces of Me, shoot as much as I hate the Jonas Brothers i've at least heard their song. How could she win Video of the Year? I do think they were "throwing her a bone." I mean even at the peak of her popularity she had never won "Best Female Artist" and NOW she gets it? Something a little fishy there.

ETA: The guy that Brit kept hugging was her manager Larry Rudoph.

Way better than last year, but still needs improvement.

Yeah, they might have thrown some bones to Britney tonight, but admit SHE LOOKED GOOD!!!! I don't know about the rest of ya'll but I was so proud of her tonight.

As much as I like Christina too, weren't you wondering "If Britney had performed, shouldn't this have been the performance she would have gave?"

The host needs to go back to England. Please bring back Jimmy Fallon or Chris Rock. Hell, bring back Arsenio (I went way back in the day).

I was amazed that Lil Wayne's pants stayed up the whole time.

Rhianna's first performance reminded me of those cheesey 80s videos with the dancers with the tore-up leotards.

Must. find. Kanye's. new. song.

That's right. I think I'm thinking of the one where he did it solo. Where dressed as Enrique Iglesias, Avril, Eminem, and just spoofed them. I think that is why I thought it was the VMAs. I love Jimmy Fallon, i think he's hilarious.

Didn't Arsenio host rather recently? Like in the past couple years?

Arsenio hosted it for several years in the late 80s-early 90s. It was when his late night show was popular. I know Jamie Foxx hosted it a few years ago (and he was corny, which was odd for him).

Jimmy Fallon hosted the VMAs in 2002, per the MTV VMA website.

I was thinking of '04, cause Arsenio was suppose to host, but ended up not.

The VMAs left something to be desired. Is it just me, or did the opening monologue make anyone else feel really uncomfortable?

But I must say, I LOVED Christina!

The only thing good was Kanye. Which was sad because I had to watch the whole thing just to get to that part. I normally love the VMAs. I was rushing home from Bid Day to watch this...sooooo not worth it. I loved Russell Brand. I think he just needed stronger jokes and I feel that MTV may have watered him down.

I miss the VMAs circa late 90's early 2000's (Chris Rock, Jamie Fox, Jimmy Fallon, hot Britney with the snake, the NSYNC/Britney duo with 'Baby One More Time/Tearin Up My Heart'.

ETA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SuldSXCI50

This was back when I was in like 9th grade and the VMAs were the most important thing in the world on TV because NSYNC was going to be on.
