Community Service Projects

Our colony is working on a monthly community service project for every month we are in school. Do you have any suggestoins on what projects we should do?

We are also looking into working with other chapters around the state for a community service project. Does anyone have any ideas?

1) Habitat for Humanity

2) Call the local Boy and Girl Scout Councils, see if you could set up a day you help them earn a badge

3) Clan up a park or a road

4) 5) 6) In the winter/fall/spring find elderly or disabled people in your community who need snow/leaf removal or yards mowed

7) Talk to the local public library or elementary schools about reading to kids

8) Canned food drive at the end of the school year, people are not only moving but since so many people give during the Holidays the summers can be hard.

9) Host a blood drive.

10) Walk dogs at the SPCA/Humane Society/pound

I realize school is about 8 months of the year, but I gave you extras.

Before clEaning a park or road, make sure it's okay! Our insurance doesn't allow us to do this, because it's such a huge liability if a sister gets hurt.

Do they all have to be planned and executed by your colony, or can they be cosponsored with other groups?

Where I go to school, the town puts on a lot of street cleans and things of that sort, so get in touch with the board or mayor of the town or city where you go to school and see if they have anything set up.

Also, someone above mentioned Habitat for Humanity and that's a really great way to do community service. On their website, you can search for local centers and if you get in contact with them, they'll let you know when they're working on a site.
