How are you like your mother?
Have you ever had the feeling you are turning into your mother or even your grandmother? I know that I get annoyed when teenagers play their music really loud (and bas pumping) when at a red light. It seems such a short time ago that I was doing that.
How are you turning into your mom???

I have always had her mannerisms. The way I walk (knobby kneed and all)and the way I stick my hands out like I'm miss fancypants when I do it. The way I speak patois when I'm mad or excited. Also sometimes the things I say-I'm constantly stopping in mid-sentence because I have mom "talking through me".

I have become a vegetarian, just like my mother and maternal grandmother. However, the range of foods we eat is not identical.

Holy fricken crap, the house guest I just had is a vegetarian...maybe she eats identically to your mom. How is that a real answer the question? A good portion of the Indian population is vegetarian as well, maybe they share her traits. I could choose to become vegetarian tomorrow...
In answering the question for myself: I'm very opinionated and outspoken, sometimes too much so...the only major difference is that I actually know (most of the time) when to hold my tongue. I'm a great cook. I am pretty adventurous, and well, we look related.

I open my mouth when I shouldn't. Although, I've been told I'm not as bad.

My house is looking a little scruffy, I promised myself I would scrub it from top to bottom today, and here I am procrastinating. If someone in my family ever had the cleaning gene, I missed it.

I am about 99% my mother in every way. Mannerisms, personality and even down to the way I walk and my handwriting. A friend of mine who lives in Atlanta had never met my mom until my wedding. She said that she couldn't stop watching my mom during the wedding because it made her laugh at how exactly alike we were. She said that my mom started moving her hands a certain way when she was talking to someone and my friend said to her husband, "Omg...that is so ZTAngel...."

My sisters say I've acquired Mom's "worst traits". I'm bossy, opinionated and very much a control freak. Which is why Mom and I "butt heads" when we're together. sigh. Actually I'm more a perfectionist and can't stand it when people do a lazy job on something or people who are inefficient in thier tasks. And I don't suffer fools gladly. Seriously, where did all these stupid people come from?????

Oh yes, I am very much turning into my mother. But the real kicker is that my mother is turning into her mother! My grandmother's worst triats are becoming a predominant streak in my mother's personality - which are, ironically, some of the things I remember my mom complaining about my grandmother. Fortunately, none are too terrible but are very irritating. To get my mom to stop those things, we say, " Hey, you sure sounded like Mimi just now," which stops her in her tracks.

Besides looking like her, I make lots of the same facial expressions that she does. The other day, I even said something that was exactly her wording and tone. It sometimes scares me to think how much i'm turning into her - but I guess it could be worse.... somehow...

I used to hate it when my mom fussed at me about my grammar but, around 4th or 5th grade, I started doing it to everyone involuntarily. Now, I don't even bother to catch myself when I'm doing it. Also, my mother is like the epitome of learned helplessness and I learned that from her. It took me a long time to get out of that and now, when I catch her doing it, I tell her to just stand up for herself, it's a lot more effective!

*I'm very opinionated (even when my opinion needs to be kept to myself). My mom is the same way.
*My mom always went on and on manners/etiquette, even when I didn't want to hear it. Now I find myself gasping in horror when (for example) when people do rude/improper things like don't send thank you cards.
*My mom loves jewelry, and I hated that she made me wear it sometimes to events in middle and high school. Now I love to wear jewelry. She is a self-proclaimed "jewelry snob" and can spot a CZ from a mile away, and I have also inherited that skill. LOL.
*My mom is very detail oriented and a meticulous planner. I always used to get mad when she would critique a project or something of mine saying that it wasn't well planned. Now I am known for being "type A" and a planner.
*I was a messy kid and my mom always told me all the time that "the cleanliness of your space reflects on you." Now I keep my apt. pretty neat and clean.

OMG i almost started a thread after the many recent realizations that i am my mother.
it doesnt help that we look alike, and that she's young enough to be (a much older) sister. rather, she looks younger than her 42 and i look older than my 23.
we both wear glasses, so i tend to wear contacts more often. she has a short haircut, so im avoiding doing the same. we're the same dress size which means we move in similar ways (ie. i notice i am starting to walk like her, with slower strides and what not).
and i noticed yesterday, as i was eating a burger, that i even EAT my food the same way.

Yesterday my sister said something rude and my mom and I responded - at the same time, in the same tone, with the exact same sentence! We do this entirely too often, although as my mother keeps pointing out, we do spend a lot of time together. Also, she did teach me to speak.
