Clemson knight found dead

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 9, 2007

Lexington, Va. - Sigma Nu Fraternity received notification earlier today that an 18-year-old Clemson University student and member of the Theta Zeta Chapter at Clemson University was found unresponsive early this morning at a residence occupied by members of the chapter.
According to the information received, emergency authorities were notified and came to the residence where they determined that the young man was deceased. Other applicable authorities and family members were subsequently notified.
The Fraternity's Executive Director, Brad Beacham, said, "We are shocked by this tragic news. We will continue to work closely with the University's administration and local officials. We intend to provide the support and cooperation we can in the wake of this loss."
Beacham added that the General Fraternity has suspended all activities of the chapter and that members of the Fraternity's staff will soon travel to campus to provide support.
Headquartered in Lexington, Va., Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and currently has nearly 180 active chapters and colonies on college campuses throughout North America.

Terrible news.

Is it standard procedure to completely suspend a chapter's functions when a brother is found dead in an off campus house? The story doesn't make any reference to alcohol or anything.

This is truely a sad time for Clemson, and especially our brothers there. We all need to take a lesson from this and re-new our commitment to the ideals we all swore to as pledges.
Its sad that this kid was only 18 years old, not even through his freshman year. We all bear a responsability to try and keep our brothers safe, be it from someone, or from doing something that could harm themselves.

May he rest in peace.
