Greeks on Reality TV!

OK,

My friend and I were channel surfing and landed on VH1 last night...

The guy nicknamed "Cheezy" on I Love New York 2 ....
Is an SAE!

We started laughing hilariously when we saw that he had a "Paddy Murphy Week" shirt on with "Sigma Alpha Epsilon" right underneath.

This guy has not been such a great guy on TV ( or at least on the episode I watched)... (It also looked like he was drinking and he did swear while wearing it).

What do you guys think about people wearing letters on Reality TV and the manner in which they act?

I think if they're not YOUR letters, you shouldn't give a rat's ass. The standards of MY NPC may have nothing in common with an IFC/NIC/NPHC group, or heck, even another NPC.

Fraternities usually don't care. I've seen worse from guys wearing letters.

I watched a show last week called " I want to look like a high school cheerleader again" and one of the women wore an AKA t-shirt.

I think another guy from I love NY is part of a fraternity (and not the Omega).

Its "Unsure" (the guy that looks like Romance from last season) and when he was packing it looked like there was a fraternity shirt. (it was ____ ____ Epsilon) lol But i'm not tooo sure. Did anyone else see that?

If it truly is "reality" tv, then letters should be worn. It would behoove the person, and all greeks, if the "reality" star acts in a way that proudly represents the organization when any sort of apparel is worn.

I mean, if I happened to be cast on any reality television show, I would conduct myself as if my (late) grandparents were tuned in.

I'm human, therefore I err, but I pray I'm never compelled to compromise my dignity for a shallow media trend. Except a game show. I know I'm way smarter than a 5th grader.

I am shocked. Shocked I tell you. A fraternity man drinking and swearing in letters. I mean, wow! Who would have thought that would happen on a "reality show".

Sarcasm aside, as AlphaFrog and PM_Mama00 noted - and as far as I know - most NICs/IFCs do not have rules about drinking or swearing in letters.

And if the show is a "reality show", then all types of manner will (should) be shown since that is the reality of life.

Hate to argue with a brother, but I think many of the NICs forbid drinking in letters. Our chapter forbade it in letters, unless it was a party shirt with letters.

(We are not arguing, we are discussing.)

I have been wrong before so it wouldn't surprise me if I am here too.

However, I don't know that there are specific rules on the inter/national level for any NIC/IFC (I'm guessing NPC and perhaps NPHC too) regarding drinking in letters. Having said that, I am sure there are rules (guidelines) about doing so on the chapter level. But as you noted, even your chapter had the exception with respect to wearing party shirts.

I would venture to guess that if a GLO forbids drinking in letters, then it would have to apply to all types of letters. Which would include - as an example - wine at convention while members are wearing their badge. And as far as I know, most sororities and fraternities allow that. My point is that the drinking in letters issue has more to do with proper behavior versus specific rules prohibiting drinking in letters.

^^ My mistake. I misread your original post as NPC, not NIC as you wrote. I was fairly sure that the sororities had strict rules about drinking in letters. (It's been a long week and it's only Wednesday.)

That doesn't exactly stop people from doing it though.

Yea Brotha, Ima have to agree with you. I know our chapter has rules that say you are not supposed to drink or swear in your letters. We even have guidelines as the where you can place/wear you letters on your person and places you can not go into with your letters on. But, only alot of the older guys and alumni follow those guideline and it really upsets me when the younger or newer guys don't care. You work so hard to earn those letters and when someone disgraces them by doing something stupid or unbecoming of a Sig in them, that's embarressing.
