Interesting Wedding Registry Items

With all the talk about crazy weddings and wedding dates, I thought I'd start a thread about interesting/crazy/ridiculous things you have seen on couple's wedding registeries.

Over the weekend I saw a friend's sister's wedding registery and she had registered for Brita Pitcher Replacement Filters and Tide Sticks. I don't know if I was the only one who thought that was odd but if you can buy the item from your grocery store I dont think it warrants a place on your wedding registry.

I also knew a girl in college that registered for (among other things) a fire extinguisher, his and her golf tshirts and cotton underwear from Wal-Mart.

Glue stick (just the sticks, not the gun), anvil lopper, and a plastic saw horse.

I've noticed that both wedding and baby registries are getting much more practical in the past few years. I've seen the tool boxes & fire extinguishers, gardening supplies, first aid kits & seriously ugly everyday dishes. I find myself buying more gift cards with a smaller gift, instead of the nicer gifts I used to give.

Oh, well.

I went to a wedding of a former co-worker a few years ago. I was entertained that her husband had hopes that we'd all be stocking their bar with the beer and hard alcohol. I also thought it was funny that they registered for items that were clearly for their little daugter daughter - kids sleeping bag, couple dolls, and I think Candy Land.

The boy went to a co-worker's wedding a few weeks ago, and their registry included RECYCLING BINS (the blue ones!), and a turkey deep-fryer. There were some other things, but those two took the cake.

I was shopping for a cousin's wedding, and they had a bunch of little stuff on there...wooden spoons, a bottle opener, a cheese grater, etc...so I got a laundry basket and filled it up with all of their little stuff. It worked pretty well.

I just checked one of my friends' registries, and they have registered for not one, but TWO sets of Lincoln Logs. Different sets of course. I thought it was funny.

The Lincoln Logs Conestoga Homestead Building Set they want is too! How can I pass them up? I guess this is the "Beyond" part of Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

WHAT??? Lincoln Logs come with plastic crap now? I'm not that old but I still remember building a cabin and trying to get the wood "shingels" to stay on top of it. What is this world coming to...I'll tell ya what, Honest Abe never had any plastic with his logs...

I hope you buy them! I enjoy finding the more interesting requests and buying those rather than the standard wine glass or plate.

One good friend of mine registered for an electic toothbrush and replacement toothbrush heads. As a joke, I gave the replacement toothbrush heads as part of her shower gift. She had to wait the other 4 months for the toothbrush (that was the wedding gift).

I had lived out from college for three years before I met FI- he didn't have anything, but it was good cause i have EVERYTHING. My aunt and I are really close and she had given me everyday dishes- set of eight, then later she gave me the entire dining room set (china cabinet, table, buffet) and the china and silver she didn't want anymore.

We have all the daily needs, but we are registering for the china pattern I want, the formal silver we like, and new everyday dishes and flatware mainly because what I have isn't really me, and he doesn't like it either. We are also registering for nice sheets and plush towels. Other than that, a few small electric appliances for the kitchen, some practical kitchen things, and maybe some items we want for decorations.

I really don't know what to register for, and I am like the earlier poster, I don't want a million frames, a million small appliances we don't need, etc. Ugh.

I know lots of couples who register for board games, and I those are always my favorite gifts to give, because I'll usually get them one or two they asked for, then a small travel-sized game so they can take it on their honeymoon. (one couple was obsessed w/ scrabble, so much so that they had a honeymoon scrabble tournament w/ the magnetic board I gave them).

As for me and my husband-to-be...don't think we're going to register. Not because we have everything, in fact, we have nothing because we haven't lived together, but because we're most likely going to live in Scotland and we can't be lugging dishes here with us. Sooo, we might register for small/packable things (sheets), but aside from that, we're hoping that the lack of registry and the word-of-mouth of our move will give people enough direction if they decide to give a gift.

Do register for nice linens - or you will get hundreds of picture frames and vases.
