Wearing Letters

Im a pledge in Kappa Delta and was curious of what the policy for wearing letters is. I know that all the houses are different but what about Kappa Delta specificly? Can I wear letters before initiation?
thanks!

Ask your pledge instructor.

Hello Eleven,

First off, WELCOME TO KAPPA DELTA!

Nationally, KD has no official policy preventing New Members from wearing Kappa Delta letters. Although it's not specifically mentioned in the policy on hazing, I imagine that preventing New Members from wearing letters might fall into this category. Anything that degrades New Members (and makes them feel "less than") is considered hazing and Kappa Delta has a zero tolerance for hazing.

That said, some chapters might encourage New Members to wait until they are initiated to wear letters. (Letters are often given to newly initiated members by their big sisters.) This would just be chapter tradition though. No one can prevent you from wearing letters if you choose to do so.

Personally, I think it's nice to wait until after initiation. It makes wearing the letters so much more meaningful.

Ask your VP - Member Education what the tradition is at your chapter. Regardless, you'll have tons of KD t-shirts, buttons, stickers, pens, you-name-it to proudly use during your New Member period and thereafter.

Have fun!!

AOT,
Leslie Anne

Hi there! Sorry for the delay in responding -- I just saw this.

Yes, I did go to the University of Maryland.

Where are you, Tiny?

Haha, no worries about the delay, I figured as much. I'm actually at Towson University -I think Maryland is the closest chapter to us. I've heard wonderful stories about yalls house and I desperately want to see it but I can't find pictures of it anywhere!! Everyone at my chapter calls it the KD mansion...I was thinking maybe you have some pictures hiding somewhere, or you know where I can find them online (just so I can be even more envious lol)
