Favorite Bars
I live in an area called West Campus, where all fraternities, but one, are located. All sorority houses are here as well. I'm not sure how many thousands of students are packed into this area between 21st and 29th street, but it's a lot. There is a bar in the center called Cain & Abel’s which has not only great drink specials, but great food specials. They do a thing every Sunday called, "Sunday Fun Day" where pretty much everything is two dollars. There’s also a place called The Tavern, which serves a lot of local beers, which are really good. They also have great daily food specials. Every Thursday they serve "white wings" which are chicken breast meat, stuffed with jalapeño, wrapped in bacon, and covered in a Tabasco sauce for $0.35 each, they're usually a buck. They're awesome.
Focus: What local bars near your houses do you go to, and what makes them special?

Schultz' Beer Garden (always have to go there when dad and his pledge brothers are in town for our Alumni events)
The Library
BD Rileys
Whisky Bar
Cheers
Ginger Man - 145+ beers on tap
Hole in the Wall and Showdown on The Drag are two personal favorites.

Schultz is good. And I remember Abel's well.
But the best bar ever was The Boar's Head in Athens, Georgia (not affiliated with the Boar's Head chain theme bars to be found in many cities.)
It was an old lounge in a cheap motel with almost no lighting, a beat up wood bar, a few old vinyl stools, darts, stale popcorn and cheap beer and drinks. Jan and Kitty worked the bar every night I was there- Miss Kitty had big white hair and somedays dressed up and some days wore a jogging suit, whatever she felt like doing.
We used to just sit there and drink til 2, and then go to someone's place and drink beer and play poker until sunrise.
Much as I like Austin, nothing ever beat that place in Athens. I recently found out it is no longer there- all torn down and replaced with something new.
I never really cared much for 6th street.

The Boars Head is still in Athens, I go there regularly. It may be in a different place, but they have the same stuff (darts, popcorn, etc)... That, Allgood and Generals are my favorite bars in Athens. Athens does have a good bar scene, but unfortunately you have to go to them with people who live in Athens, which can suck. My favorite bar in Auburn is easily Bodega, which unfortunately is closing for good this weekend due to the college street getting bought out by condo's. War Eagle Supper Club is also a traditional favorite. In Tuscaloosa I generally go to Innisfree, the booth or gallettes, bham I like innisfree and kudu. I don't generally like Atlanta bars, but Va highlands has some decent places and I like the Bucket Shop for predrinking before concerts or sporting events.

I like Moes & Joes and the Highland Tap (great burger and best martini in town) as well as a place down near Ponce with a big deck. Not sure I ever knew its name--we just called it the porch place.
My favorite Atlanta bar is no longer: The Stein Club. A total hole in the wall but had a great juke box.

I love El Rancho, I'm amazed at how many people haven't been there. I think my father has been eating lunch everyday at that place, and where it was downtown originally for like 20 + years. Sometimes he switches off for The Ditch
