Stick Guard/Upgrade Your Badge

I was reading about this in the Adelphean. Does anyone have a photo of the new guard?

This was posted previously, by HBADPi. The chapter letters would replace the Trident:

The only thing I can't see is how you'd put dangles on it. But are they completely passe now?

I've always seen dangles as a money-making scheme Kidding.

In all seriousness, I wish the badges were a bit larger so you could really SEE them.

That's why I like the 20 stone (4 points, 16 pearls) pins. The standard pin now was called the minature pin when I was inititiated.

I think theyd still go on the rope/chain you use to attach the guard to your pin. That's my understanding at least.

In all honesty, I really don't like the new guard. I definately prefer my guard with my chapter letters.

I guess the one good thing about this type of guard would be for the sisters who affiliate. So many more sisters are going to one school, joining and then for personal reasons, transferring and affiliating. If they feel bonds to both chapters this guard would help them out because you wouldn't be able to have two guards.

I think there is a misunderstanding- at the top of the "stick" will be the chapter letters... and there will still be a chain that connects it to the badge... so dangles can still be worn and you can still see which chapter the sister is from...

I lost my original pin, and now seriously regret not having a guard. In your opinion, which is the better one to get? The stick pin type, or the regular guard type?

I honestly don't know anyone with a stickpin guard - yet. My own guard has saved my pin more than once - even through the washer!

Yes you do

I actually prefer the stickpin to the original guard - I find it easier to pin on than the original one (but maybe that's because my original guard's clasp was very tight and hard to turn). I actually run more into the trouble of my dangles falling off the guard, but that's more because the loop of the dangle wasn't fully closed when put into the links of the guard

^^ Who'd ever guess that?

I told all of my dangles (small chapter = lots of dangles) to my jeweler and was told that I'd have to get a new chain, because the one I have is too weak. Then, it would have been $9.95 to connect each dangle.

There's a woman at every Panhellenic luncheon - I want to say that she's an Alpha Phi. She has her pin, a 4" chain, then her guard, with every dangle she's earned. She claims to wear it to work and other fancy occasions, on her lapel. Now, I don't know of a sorority who allows a pin to be worn on a lapel (we were, very briefly, and only if the blazer was buttoned shut), but frankly, it's stunning. You'd never know it's a sorority pin, and she gets questions about it all of the time.

Since I have some of my pins promised*, I would use a yellow gold with sapphires pin, with the crest guard, and all of the dangles in between. Maybe someday I can afford to do this!

*My sorority little sister has three daughters - twins and a spare - beautiful, intelligent, lively, and talented young ladies. Making a very long story short, I told my little that, if any of her daughters are initiated into Alpha Delta Pi, they can get the entry pin, but have her choice of any of the ones I've rescued. The twins are juniors, so this could happen soon (she prays!).
