Advice

No, they don't HAVE to offer you a bid. Depending on the school, rec letters and legacies mean close to nothing because of the huge number of legacies that go through each year. Literally, some sororities could fill entire pledge classes with nothing but legacies. Going through as a sophomore will make it more difficult for you, however, if you know a lot of girls in the chapter it might not matter too much. What school are you going to?

Being a legacy does not guarantee you a bid, however the chapter may extend special courtesy to you depending on their national policies.

Be sure to get a letter of introduction to that group so that they *know* that you are a legacy. They won't just take your word on it. This is in addition to other letters of introduction that you should secure for the other chapters on campus.

Good luck!

Use the Search, play nice, and don't make me come in there.

Rush at The University of Texas is one of the most competitive outside of the SEC. And yes, that means many of the houses, particularly those like Pi Phi, could fill their entire pledge classes with legacies. As a sophomore, even though you may know a lot of people, you will be facing enormous odds and will most likely be cut heavily and very early. If you decide to rush, you will need to keep a very open mind and the fact that you already have "top choices" really concerns me. You also need recs, so hopefully that's something you already have lined up. There are a lot of old rush threads about Texas here if you use the search function.
