Swapping Sororities???
I have a sister who is very unhappy with our sorority for personal reasons. While I was talking to her she stated she was going to just change sororities and rush a different one. I told her that as I know it, that is not possible...once a DZ, always a DZ...not another. I suggested to her that if she is that unhappy to take some time off and really think about it..should she choose later she can turn in her letters (which I expressed severely that I hope she doesn't).
I am just making sure, she can't just join another sorority can she? I have always read and been told you can't do that. I guess I am confused because someone told her she can.

No, you can't. It's against Panhellenic rules. I suppose she could join a local sorority, but not Panhellenic.

That is what I was thinking. I dunno, maybe she is trying to go for a local. I just hope she figures something out. I love her dearly and will no matter what her choice is.

If she has not yet initiated with Delta Zeta, then she can pursue membership in another chapter. I'm assuming from your post that she has initiated and is considered a member with full privileges of membership.

okay so i have to ask this. how will one sorority know if someone was already a member of another? what if someone did this secretly without telling? say he/she transfers and that school does not have their fraternity/sorority and decided to rush another knowing its against the rules. what will happen?

From what my understanding is, the NPC has some kind of database listing all of its members. If she were to try to join another sorority at a different campus, the NPC would be able to tell them that she is ineligible because she is already a member of a different sorority.

While I believe there is SOME sort of safeguard in place besides just gossip, I know that if you get caught you get your membership revoked in the second GLO.
I know that names get sent to HQ at some point, after pledging I assume, and there could be a master list of NPC women.
Not a clue really but there are a few leads...

I supposed IF it was ever found out (and if they person was DL enough about it, it might not ever be found out) they would probably be expelled from both groups. Although something like that might be hard to keep a secret.

I would think that in this computer age it would be harder to get away with it, since databases can be updated easily and shared easily, but I wonder how hard this would have been even 20 years ago.
