Vote for Texas

I am attempting a modicum of state pride... so here goes...

The "Don't Mess With Texas" slogan has been nominated for a very prestigious award. If it were to win, a Bronze Plaque would be placed on Madison Avenue's "Walk of Fame" and would get a permanent place at the Advertising Icon Museum in Kansas City.

Please go to www.votedmwt.com and vote for it. The competition is tough, like Got Milk?, What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, The breakfast of Champions, and others. So...please vote early and often, and tell your fellow Texans (and sympathizers) to do likewise.

Wouldn't it be cool for New Yorkers to have to walk past a Bronze Plaque every day that said "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!"

I've been to too many Willie Nelson concerts to pick anything else! I voted, and will do so again from work tomorrow!

Pssst - unless you saw Willie in the early 1970's or before, he wasn't drunk.

eta: Voted again!

Was this in the 70's? Willie Nelson doesn't drink anymore....he smokes pot. I have spent alot of time with him down in Austin at his studio (one of my good friends here at UT is an intern there). It is widely known that neither Willie nor Jerry Jeff drink.

I (and almost everyone I know) always cuts the "Don't" off of those bumper stickers. Everyone I know has a car that says: "mess with Texas"

I voted for diamonds.

I will not vote for Texas. What does that advertise? You can't go to the store and buy some Texas.

Diamonds are forever, because that was invented before I was born, and ever since I've heard it, I knew I would buy one someday.

Plus, Don't Mess With Texas sounds like a state pride thing, not even really a touristy thing. Viva las Tejas would look better on bumper sticker anyway. That way Oklahomans (Oklahites? Oklahomers?) could not cut them.

Oklahomans is correct, and it's not only Oklahomans that do that. I've seen the amended bumper stickers on cars with plates from California and even Alaska, among others.

However, Oklahoma used "Don't lay that trash on Oklahoma" which has to be the stupidest anti-litter campaign EVER.

Don't Mess with Texas is a PR campaign reminding Texans and visitors to please not litter. "Don't Mess" refers to trash.
