I think that just comes from the fact that you've posted multiple threads on the movie, and you were raving about it before you even saw it. It's not a big deal, plenty of people post multiple threads about topics. It's just kind of funny.

Hey, I was an avid supporter last year of The Aviator, which should have brought Scorcese his first Oscar. I was not an active participant here on GC at the time, otherwise I would have posted more about it.

After seeing over 200 movies in theaters last year, BBM seems to be the Oscar frontrunner this year. Do the research. A lot of Critic's Awards are awarding BBM their major awards for the year.

You have another choice?

I haven't seen Brokeback, so I'm not going to say whether or not it's worthy. It has gotten some good reviews, but it's received some not-so-good reviews as well. If I see it, it will be with an open mind.

I thought Capote was great, but I'm realistic that it's not the type of movie that the Academy often recognizes. I've also heard good things about "Walk the Line."

Yeah I love this film, but I think there only needs to be one thread for it. That's not a diss on you, I just don't like multiple threads.

Also, I don't think there's a Hollywood agenda here. We still don't know if Brokeback will win any of these awards...it should IMO. But we'll see. I'm cautiously optomistic.

Out of all of those movies the only one I saw was Brokeback. I really wanted to see all of them but I didn't have the time. I would have to say though that Sin City was probably my favorite movie of the year.

Reading this makes me realize how few movies I've seen in the past year. I've seen Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Harry Potter GoF, Chronicles of Narnia and... that might be it! LOL

'Capote' Breaks 'Brokeback' Streak
The National Society of Film Critics' best picture earned multiple awards, as did 'A History of Violence.'

HOLLYWOOD -- "Capote" upset "Brokeback Mountain" on Saturday when the biographical drama was chosen best picture by the National Society of Film Critics.

To date, the majority of critics' groups had named "Brokeback Mountain" as the top picture of 2005, but the western drama about two cowboys in love didn't place among the three main contenders for best film by the 57-member group during Saturday's vote. In fact, "Brokeback" was shut out by the National Society of Film Critics.

It took an unprecedented six ballots for "Capote" to be selected by the critics at their 40th annual meeting at Sardi's restaurant in New York. And "Capote" won by the slimmest of margins -- only one vote separated it from the runner-up for best picture, "A History of Violence."

Besides nabbing best film honors, "Capote" star Philip Seymour Hoffman was chosen as best actor. Hoffman is shaping up as the front-runner for the Academy Award, having been selected by several critics' groups, including Los Angeles, Boston and Toronto. He also was nominated for a Golden Globe, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Independent Spirit award for his performance.

"History of Violence" also won two awards, for best director David Cronenberg and best supporting actor Ed Harris.

The critics named Reese Witherspoon as best actress for her role as country singer June Carter in the musical biopic, "Walk the Line." Last month, Witherspoon won best actress from the New York Film Critics' Circle; she's also a nominee for the Golden Globe and the SAG award.
