New house at SMU
I was in Dallas and stopped at a Starbucks west of campus to check my e-mail (T-Mobile Hot Spot). A sorority girl was sitting there and I asked her about our house at SMU and she revealed that our brothers at SMU had new digs. I went by for a look.
There is a magnificent new LXA house at SMU. Brand spanking new. Built from the ground up as a Fraternity house - our fraternity house.
Our brothers at SMU are quite fortunate indeed.

What a shame that they can spend this kind of Money and not have a Web Site!
I am sure all of us would like to see the new House!

They didn't have a choice
The university wanted the real estate where their old house stood for a parking garage. Not sure of the financial details, but the University helped finance the house and has an ownership interest therein. Don't know if SMU will ever entirely own their house again.
Universities are exerting greater pressure now to regulate residential living on campus. The upside is that you can sometimes get a nicer facility. The downside is that it may never really be yours again. That is the new reality. Just look at what Colgate did.
40+ years ago a similar thing happened at North Dakota and it worked out very well for both the University and Epsilon-Zeta Zeta. They got the old real estate and we got a new house. We were able to retire the debt and own it free and clear now. It was, perhaps, one of the first creatively financed chapter houses anywhere.

John, can agree with Your think and the atmosphere of todays Schools and Expansion. Have seen it to may times at a lot of Schools.
I consider LX Z very Lucky in that We owned the land, a 3 corner property near campus. Well not right across the sreet but almost. The School wanted to move all of the Greeks to a common area off of the main street where many of us are located. There was a Hue and Cry about this and it was stopped.
Expansion is a Priority with many schools as TKE Propery it gone (They were Lost anyway), Sig Ep House is on the wrong side of the street and School wants the whole block so they too will be gone soon. STG is also wanted by the School and they are negotiationg price. It is somewhat Historical so will not be torn down.
But still would like to know if they have that kind of $$$$ why not have a Web Site? The silent selling tool!

Check out this link, guys...nice looking house!
http://people.smu.edu/greeks/fratsor...achialpha.html
It's a photo on the official SMU Greek Life page. While this doesn't equate having their own site, at least those interested in learning more about the chapter can find out through Greek Life.

This is a photo of the NEW house at SMU, looks alot bigger than the old house.
Speaking of Colgate check out www.sa4c.com
it is the alumni against Colgate forcing Greeks to sell their houses, it is amazing the gradual erosion of the rights of Greeks in housing and recruitment all over the US. What function does the NIC serve if not to actively and publically combat these things? Or are they just like IFC's at most colleges, a paper tiget that likes to seem important? Only on a larger scale.

Old SMU house was magnificent - I was there in 91 or 92 - I also recall one house on greek row had been severly damaged in a fire about that same time - what house was that - anyone know?
New link leads to a "IP address cannot be used for browsing" display....WTF?
