History of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Philippines
Wednesday, 28 September 2005
It was in the first semester of school year 1964-65 when eight Agricultural Engineering students in Central Mindanao University, Musuan, Bukidnon decided to form an organization. Five of them were in their third year of schooling, while the three is in their second year. Their main objective was to help one another to do well in their studies; they were challenged by the impression that it was impossible for anyone not to experience failing grades in CMU when you enroll in Agricultural Engineering.

In the beginning, the founders did not think of organizing a fraternity. The group simply wanted to form an organization where they would belong and be guided by certain norms and conduct in order to survive in CMU and finish the course on time. And so, they had formed an honor society to imply their intention and called themselves SAE, or Society of Agricultural Engineering. But it turned out that the organization was very loose. In fact, it could not be even recognized by the school simply because its membership could not reach the minimum requirement.

Meanwhile, the idea of organizing a fraternity was more tempting. The society members were in fact almost convinced to join a fraternity, the only recognized by the University in those days. But, I for one had disliked many of their practices. The idea of joining another fraternity, which had been operating without being recognized by the school, was not also acceptable. Hence, the only recourse was to form a new one. But the problem was, not anyone from the group ad acknowledge of how to go about it.

This group has got nothing to do with Sigma Alpha Epsilon as it's known in North America.
