Rush Results
Well fraters, we just finished our rush week and I am eager to hear how everyone else's rush week went if you finished it.
Our chapter has 23 active members as of today and we rushed 22 guys. I think that is a great accomplishment since a.) we are the only fraternity on campus that does not have a house and b.) all the other fraternities hate us for some reason. I believe we had the second most guys run out the doors for us today.

Bump...
Ok so it's November now, let's hear some good news about rush.
ETA: Ok, Eric, you still alive? Since Eric usually posts things in here I guess I'll try and get things moving again...

The Sigma Psi Chapter at Clemson University recently had a pledge class of 16 men (the largest pledge class to date for our chapter) and initiated 15 of those 16 men into Tau Kappa Epsilon. The size of the fraternity nearly doubled when the pledge class of Fall 2005 assumed the bond.
The Bottom Line:
Going into Rush - 24 Active Brothers
At 10PM on October 23rd, 2005 - 39 Active Brothers
As one of the smallest fraternities on campus, we managed to have the largest pledge class on campus (At least I'm pretty sure we did anyways. Some pledge seasons don't end until after Winter Break.)
Our goal of 50 Active Brothers before next fall is becoming more and more within our reach.

of the 14 we rushed, we initiated 5 quality guys who are tight and understand what it is to be Teke.
of the 9 who dropped, I expect to see 2-3 come back for the Winter semester
It goes to prove that you don't need a house to get good men.

whatever happemed?
whatever happened to the 30 man pledge class with 29 of them
initiated? If you are initiating less than 75%...take stock as you
are doing a piss poor job.
The Beta Theta Pi chapter at KU has regularly initiated 90% for
decades

I think we (Rho-Omega) had between 55 guys get bids and had 51 initiated (I believe these are the correct numbers not quite sure though)...of the few that didnt initiate for whatever reason I know of at least 2 that are planning to come back in the Spring...not too bad for our first semester back on campus

But not McNutt. It's nothing personal, but McNutt didn't smile. EVER.
J/K! Congrats!

Dr. McNutt
When I met James Carson McNutt, MD, in the fall of '57 he was on
a downhill ride. He was quite senile but had a copy of The Teke magazine...with him on the cover...hanging on his office wall.
He graciously signed my Golden Book and we had an exchange of
a few minutes. He smiled. He was still practicing in his 80s.
William Salter "Bill" Wilson was a non-smiler and not at all personable, but during those times there was a lot of unrest.
But the real hardnose, and I never met him, was Wallace G. McCauley. Jimmie Love was totally indifferent about TKE. Tues
was a likeable old judge. The fashion plate was our dear old
Clarence Arthur Mayer, who wrote the Closing Ode; he was a real
charmer, and Tex Flint...well, he was Tex, and quite loveable.
Wilson and Flint were hellaciously good orators, quite polished.
And Pete Leland, Gene Beach & Milt Olander were hail fellows well met. The next generation--they were all fascinating.
Good memories. As Bruce Melchert said a few years back when we were lunching in Boulder...I had asked him where the old men
of TKE were...he said "Erik, WE are the old men." YITB, EPC
