Do you have a crappy boss?
I do! I have been here for a year today and he didn't even have it on his calendar...I mean WTF??!!!
Call me crazy, but is that normal? He is a slavedriver, so I shouldn't expect a cake or even a pat on the back. I am asking for a raise tomorrow. I don't care what the outcome is...I damn well deserve a raise!
Anyone else have a terrible boss? I sure as hell do!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...I need a new job! I have given him a year of my life I can't get back.

My boss didn't even give us a Christmas card.
Why should you get a cake for sticking with your job for a year? Why should it be on his calendar? You know how many cakes employers would have to go through?

I have had to remind every boss I have ever had of an anniversary date. I would have also let the date pass without mention, but everywhere I have worked your are reviewed and given your annual raise on your anniversary.
I think it is common for your anniversary to usually go unnoticed. That seems to be the way it is.

To add: if you think you deserve a raise, then asking for one is the right way to go about it. If you demand one and go about it with a demanding sort of tone, you're likely not to get one and get on the boss's bad side. There's a right way and a wrong way to go about these sorts of things.

My current boss is FANTASTIC...except for the dating men 20-30 years younger than her & then telling me all about her sex life. *shudders*

We all get our reviews at the same time. it would be incredibly inconvenient for the bosses to have to time it to everyone's anniversary.
The only time we get recognition is 5 - 10 etc years.

Well...
There are only 6 people that work in the office, thats why I find it rude and careless.
The reason why I was wanting atleast an acknowledgement of my anny was because everyone else gets a cake, lunch, etc.
THAT'S why I find it weird that he "forgot" to write the day that I started down. Thats poor management, especially when there are only 6 of us in the office.
Oh, and BTW KDDani, I am not going to DEMAND a raise, I know how to ask for one. Just because I am p'oed in a post doesn't mean that I am going to storm in his office and pitch a fit.

Well are you just part time or a student worker or something? That may also be why.
Or maybe he just simply forgot to write it down. If everyone else gets something i'd hope you'd give him a benefit of a doubt. Or casually bring up the fact that you've been there for a year already and see if he says anything, if it means that much to you.

No, I am degreed. I graduated in 2003 with a BA in Communication. I am a Public Relations Specialist and do the work of 3 people.
Sorry. Just bitter and seeking new employment b/c no one around here gets the recognition they deserve.
A lady that has been here ten years makes less money than me. That's sad. Well, then again, I have a degree and she doesn't. Maybe that has something to do with it. On her 10 year anny she got a 25 cent raise. He has never told us good job, even though we basically are his slaves. He caters more to the board members than we do, and they do no work at all. They determine our salary as well.
I just hope the job I just interviewed for pulls though. I have got to get outta here!

Thats the same way with the company I work for. Every Spring the managers review our work & we're given raises in July. Everyone gets a raise except for those that were given a poor review. Those that have been here for 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, etc. get recognition company-wide along with a gift of your choosing. My dad got a Grandfather clock with his name engraved for his 25 year anniversary. Most people choose the rolex watch though. When I hit my 5 year I plan on getting a new luggage set.

I might not know the whole story behind your boss but I do think there's a lot more to life than being upset that you're boss forgot your year anniversary.
Everyone has crappy bosses. They deal with it.
I had a boss who made everyone's life miserable on purpose. When a Category 4 hurricane was heading right for Florida in just a few hours, he made us work the whole day even though we all wanted to get home to our families and board up our homes. I drove home from work that day in torrential downpour and winds that I couldn't even stand up in. I dealt with it.
I had a boss who made me feel uncomfortable everyday for my religious and political beliefs. He ordered holiday cards that said 'Merry Christmas' and said his reason was that most of the world is Christian (not true) and everyone else would just have to get use to it. I could've thrown a fit, marched over to HR, and put in my notice to resign right then. But, I dealt with it.
I had a boss who didn't believe women should be in the workforce. He felt that they should be home with the children. If a woman was childless or only had 1 child, he said that she was selfish. He constantly made degrading comments about women. You could see that he felt in this way by just looking at the ratio women to men our office: 7 men for every woman. I hated him more than anyone in the world but I chose to just ignore him.
I had a boss who played solitare on his computer all day while making me spend some weekends working on the stuff that he was supposed to do. He then would tell me that work wasn't getting done and it was all my fault. Once again, I dealt with it.
I had a boss who forced a co-worker with health problems into early retirement. He also laid off a guy right after his son was born. He also has been making up gossip about our Business Director so that this man could get fired after his reputation becomes tarnished (thus making the poor guy unemployable).
I had a boss that let me go 2 weeks before my resignation date after being nice enough to give him a month's notice on my resignation. He knew I needed the money and he did this out of spite because he's a nasty person. Instead of complaining, I took some time off for myself to regroup and figure out what I wanted to do with my life. In other words, I dealt with it.
My boss didn't remember the date of when I had been working there for one year nonetheless my birthday. It didn't even phase me.
People everywhere have absolutely horrible bosses. I would say that many of us on GC have had bosses that are just as awful if not worse than mine. We dealt with it! Sorry, but the post just got to me. I went through hell and back again with my boss. If him not remembering your year anniversary is one of the bigger problems you have with him, than you should put a smile on your face and thank goodness that you have a boss who is ok. You could have a lot worse. You'll fill find that you will have managers in your lifetime that shouldn't be in a management position. They obtained their position out of seniority rather than if they're a good leader. If you want sympathy from GCers because your boss didn't remember your anniversary, I just don't think you're going to get it here.

There is more behind my boss, but that is another story. I am sorry that you had such a shitty boss.
Maybe when I have enough time to write i'll post what my boss has done to everyone in the office. It would prolly won't shock many of you since most of you that post replies are very negative towards the poster anyways.

I'm sorry, my crystal ball has been tied up in other matters.
We didn' t know anything about the situation except you posted a rant that your boss forgot your anniversary. That's all we knew. Even after you told us more, it seems the thing that was of most importance to you, that you chose to post about, was that he forgot your anniversary. To everyone that's posted, that's small peanuts compared to other crap bosses do. It's hard to sympathize with someone who's boss forgot their anniversary when there are much worse things that could be going on.
I'd hate to be your boyfriend/husband if he forgot your anniversary or birthday!
But to call us "very negative" b/c we don't think it's a big deal... why? Just b/c someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them super nasty. Everyone's not out to get you, believe it or not

KDDani,
When you make comments like "I'd hate to be your boyfriend/husband if he forgot your anniversary or birthday!"
That only pisses people off. I think this all stems back to the "snootiest/snobbiest" thread.
Lay off please. You don't even know me to make such a comment.

Hey, you're making a post complaining that your boss forgot your anniversary, something which most bosses do not even keep track of. You expect everyone to agree with you? You posted something for public comment, and several GCers have commented. No one was out of line.
Until you mentioned it, I didn't even realize you were the same poster from the snootiest thread. I don't hold grudges. Your attitude isn't exactly inviting hugs and kisses either, so don't throw stones if you live in a glass house.
