LAWRENCE, Kan. -- It happened in a flash.
A man with a camera snapped photos of a coed as she slept inside her sorority house.
Police were investigating Tuesday morning.
A woman at the Sigma Delta Tau house told police she was sound asleep in her bed when her roommates woke up at about 4 a.m. to find a man standing over her, snapping pictures.
"Usually, you feel so safe, but you hear about something like that, and it's like, 'Okay. I'm going to go ahead and double check my locks,'" said Megan Persinger, a KU junior.
"To hear that somebody broke into that house, and I mean, taking pictures of girls while they sleep, that's very creepy," said Alex DiCarlo, a KU sophomore.
The women actually waited a week to report the crime, thinking it might have been a prank.
At least one item was also stolen from the house.
At last check, police hadn't made any arrests.

Jill, you're right - that's one sick puppy!
What's really scary is that if someone can break in to take photos in the bedrooms, what else could happen?!
Granted, I read a lot about true crime, but this is only a few psycho steps from Ted Bundy.

well . .. maybe its only a few steps . . but those are MONSTER steps . . .
She wakes up with flash in her eyes, versus beaten to death and sexually abused.

And I won't argue that point. It's just that the OPPORTUNITY to have Option #2 was as available as Option #1. That's what's scary/wrong.

Anyone who wants to kill you at anytime is almost always going to suceed. Locks keep honest people honest, or else keeps at bay the lazy.
What most protects you is the laws of averages. Its just more likely that someone else somewhere else will get killed on any given night.
Like flying in an airplane.

It's a sad world
This happened in my school's apartments last year. A guy walked into any apartments that were unlocked and had Greek letters on the windows (but he apparently didn't know the fraternity letters from sorority letters, as he mistakenly went into some guy apartments) and pulled girls' pants down and video taped the girls (they were passed out). A TKE who is in the Army ran after him (and this TKE is buff), but he still got away. He later turned himself in.

As a security professional I can't stress the importance of keeping doors and windows locked in fraternity and sorority houses at all times.
The time is long gone when a fraternity can keep its front door unlocked 24/7. We had someone walk right in our house and steal a brand new TV from our basement in broad daylight several years back. This theft pails in comparison to what happened (or could have happened) to this poor girl.
Sororities make a mighty temping target for the disturbed, perverted and potentially violent among us. I have worked with sororities at our local university in order to mitigate potential security issues and enhance general safety. Keep all doors and windows (even 2nd & 3rd floor) ones locked 24/7. Alot of sororities in my area have installed access control systems to prevent unauthorized entry into their homes. Its costly, but it prevents the copying of keys and keeps a computerized log of all entry/exit activity. Intrusion alarm systems are also a good idea but can sometimes be difficult to implement in a house full of people who come and go at all times.
Sorority women, please keep all doors and windows locked 24/7 and have a good security lighting system around the perimeter of your house. Its also a good idea to check with your national on overall security and safety policies that you can implement at your chapter house. Stay safe.
