Cool Rush2000

Hi, I became a member this past Fall to the Beta Omega Chapter at St.John's and am currently the Rush Chair for the Fall 2000 rush. I was wondering if anyone had ideas for a ceremony we could use for Preference Night. We use the same one ewvery year with the Iris and we pass it around and name one characteristic that the sister next to us brought to the sorority. Are ther any suggestions for a change??

Thanks-- you can email me at Jenga7400@aol.com

Kim

Kim,

Here at Delta Gamma we have two pref ceremonies. The firts one seems to change every year. We stand in a large circle alternating rusher and rushee. Everyone has a candle. There are three speakers at the head of the circle, usually the Pres, Rush Chair, and MAL. They all read a little something about sisterhood. They each have an iris head and there is a glass/crystal bowl half filled with water, in front of them. When they finish their reading they gently place their iris head in the bowl. This year I think we are soing something different. Everyone (sisters and rushees) will be given a pearl , and I think a couple will make a speech about something and everyone will have the opportunity to make a wish in their head and place the pearl in a glass dish filled with water.

One thing we do every year is the Balloon Ceremony. Everyone is given a purple or gold helium balloon. The Sisterhood chair makes a speech about sisterhood, and at the end everyone lets go of their balloons and watches them float of into the night sky. We do this at the very end of prefs, after the ceremony we say goodnight to the rushees.
