Whoa - Question
So I'm browsing around again and I come across a post that says that sometimes students from nearby colleges (community colleges) can rush through a greek system in a bigger university.
Is this true? If I'm going to a community college in the same town as a state university can I rush the GLO's at the university? I've heard 'crossing over' for organizations works for some groups (band I know for sure) is it up to each individual group or panhel or what?

So what you're saying is that you have a student at Podunk Community College and they want to rush at Big University while still attending PCC?
I'm about 100% sure you have to be a student at the school you rush at. I think that's what you're asking

I'm not sure how the sororities handle this but I know the DU chapter @ my school accepts guys from the nearby college as well.

Sorry
Yes, that's what I was asking.
Do you have to be a student at the school you're rushing at?
And who exactly do I call to verify this kind of stuff? Panhel at the big school?
lol sorry for the mixup...my little brain got new input and jumbled up the output!

***edited to add: This is the fastest responses I've ever seen to a post! Gee, I wonder if it just might have something to do with BlazerCheer's rush finale being just hours away...

I don't know the rules off the top of my head, but I think it's a shame if this cannot be done...but rules are rules, right ?

I found this on the National Panhellenic Conference site:
"To be eligible to pledge an NPC fraternity chapter on the campus where a woman is enrolled, she shall be regularly matriculated according to the definition of matriculation established by that institution. (2)"
http://www.npcwomen.org/policies/p_agreements.php
So basically, you do have to be a student. I hope this helps!

This might be true for fraternities or NPHC groups, but for NPC groups, no. Can you show a link to the post? That might help us put it into perspective.

For sororities, you must be a student at the school where you want to rush. For fraternities it's different, at least on my campus...guys from the local community college, which is affiliated with UK, could still join UK fraternities.

I also know it to be the case with NPHC groups that you can pledge at a different college.
One of my sorority sisters is a legacy through her mother and grandmother to Delta Sigma Theta (an NPHC sorority). Her biological little sister pledged Delta Sigma Theta at a neighboring college this past year, even though she attended a different, also 4-year, institution.
However, with the 26 NPC groups, this is a big no-no.

It is a big no no with NPC. NPC rules say that you have to matriculated where theres a chapter plus chapters have to be at 4 year schools.
As for NPHC thats a little different. They often have chapters that are regionally based, not campus based. I think some multicural and ethnic glo's follow their lead on that too.
For fraternities I think it varies from organization to organization. I know the fraternities on my campus have pledged kids from the local community college b/c it is so nearby and half of them going to my school when they graduate from there but i don't know if they are breaking rules or not.
