Post Non hazing chapters?

I'm sorry, I'm back again to ask for more info about the Greek system.
I'm still years away from college myself, so I don't know what are the major Greek chapters and such. I'm trying to find national Greek associations etc. that ban hazing. Any links and such?

I believe most of the national GLOs ban hazing. We have a policy against it (Sigma Alpha). You may also want to check the threads under risk management for more information.

I'm really sorry, but what's a GLO?
(As I said, I'm still years away from college so therefore know very little about the greek system itself aside from sterotypes and all the media stuff)

GLO= Greek Letter Organization

If you're still years away from college, than you shouldn't be worried about sorority stuff right now. Worry about high school, and fun!! You're going to miss those years!

omia...how's about you register with us, eh?

anyway, a GLO is a greek letter organization. i know that my fraternity (sorority, if you will...) is nationally non-hazing. most are, actually. now, whether or not people ABIDE by these rules is another thing altogether. you won't know until you go through. and just as a personal inquiry...what year are you in high school??

Register? maybe...But I need to worry about this stuff right now because I'm doing a debate about why not to dissolve the greek system at my local University and want to find non hazing chapters as evidence.
Sorry if I'm bothering you guys...

G.L.O. = Greek Letter Organization

I don't think you'll find ANY fraternity that condones or supports hazing. This is not part of the ideals and landmarks of the organization. It is a tradition that developed over recent years as a way to entertain current members and test the limits of pledges. Hazing links that I know of are the following: http://www.stophazing.org/ http://www.hazinglaw.com/

Some films links about hazing: http://www.frat-movie.com/ http://www.followers.com/

Hope that helps.

Well,

I don't know how to tell you this, but all fraternities and sororities don't advertise their hazing, it's a private sadistic trait they keep for themselves. Most, probably all websites will tell you that they are against it, whether or not every chapter of them follows it is another question. I don't know if you can find "evidence" that proves either side, all you can do is trust what they say.

But in the case of this debate, I don't think that they have the power to doubt what the organization themselves say. So that's good.

I would think that all GLO's would have to have banned hazing by now, considering something like 42 states have laws against it. I know Lambda Chi Alpha was one of the first if not THE first to condemn hazing, way back in the day, 1928. LCA also got rid of the term pledge in 1972. It's more symbolic than anything, but shows that we were trying to make a difference. If you want any more info feel free to email me: mailto:steve.corbin@rose-hulman.edu
Here's the LCA timeline if you want to check it out: http://www.lambdachi.org/timeline___1909-1929.htm

you're only a freshman in high school?? swetums, you've got PLENTY of time to worry about college...how's about you focus on NOW: high school? not trying to sound like your mom or older sister or whatnot...but hazing is way less important than enjoying your summer and focusing on school...anyone else here agree with me?!

It doesn't seem she's worried abut college, except for the fact that she's doing a debate about it!

OMIA,

You may find this thread interesting reading. It deals with some of the reasons administrators try to ban Greek organizations.
