Question Twin Cities Area, MN

Any one living in the area?? My husband and I are new to the area & we are both recnt college grads. He was GDI, but I am an ADPi.

I'm wondering if there are GCers in the area that can offer advice on places to go, things to do...etc. Meeting people isn't as easy as it was in Kindergarden when you walked up to them and they were your instant friend....or as easy as being an active collegian in a GLO that you had a ton of sisters (or brothers) to hang with.

ADPi has a forming Alumnae assn here, but its just getting off the ground and I am pretty burnt out on being an officer (I was in a VERY small chapter and have been an officer since initation).

-Just looking for some advice, a few pointers, and some friendly greeks.

Fraternally,
Jen

I'm an ADPi living in Minneapolis! I grew up here, but went to KU. I'm back here with my boyfriend too, and I live in St. Louis Park. There are lots of fun things to do in Minneapolis, especially in the summer. If you live near Minneapolis, you should really take advantage of doing things aroung Lake Calhoun and Harriet, such as rollerblading or free concerts. There's a lot of good local music, check out City Pages. Most of my friends have met other couple friends through church or work. However living "South of the river" (i.e. Savage, Burnsville) is totally different, most people who live in the southern suburbs don't go north of the river much.

If you're looking for cool bars downtown or uptown, check out:
Brit's Pub (Nicollet Mall, enourmous outdoor bar with lawn bowling on roof)
Martini Blu (smoke-free, Downtown at the Grand Hotel)
Gluek's (Laid-back German bar, downtown)
Chino Latino (Chinese/Mexican restaurant/trendy bar in Uptown)
Bar Abilene (Mexican bar/restaurant, Uptown)
The Local (Nicollet Mall)

Write back if you want other suggestions, such as churches, or places to live

I attend Univ. of Minnesota, and I'd agree with everything that was said. I love, love, love City Pages, cause its free and it tells you all about stuff that is going on in the cities. I'd suggest just hanging out in Uptown, walking around, you'll run into a ton of really friendly people and find out about things that are going on!

I grew up near Minneapolis too! I was in Wayzata / Plymouth though. And most of the stuff I know about is outdoorsy stuff. I was too young to go to bars when I was there.

Jhawkalum

Hey Jhawkalum,

I'd love more info about churches. We currently have an apartment in Eden Prairie, and we both work in Minneapolis. He is downtown while I work on campus at the U of M.

We have been all over trying to find the right church. Its definately a harder process than we anticipated.

Living in Minnesota just isn't sitting right with me right now....I guess I am feeling home sick or something. (I am originally from So Cal & I wanna go back).

Jen

I used to live in Eden Prairie!!!! that was 10 yrs ago. I remember though that we had trouble finding a church because a lot of them were very snooty. But it could have changed now. I would say the best thing is to check them out and then find one you like. also if they have a website that usually means they are with the times. You can get a good feel sometimes from just the website.
Where in Eden Prairie are you living?

We have an apartment near the Eden Prairie Center...yep the Mall where they filmed Mall Rats. Its alot nicer now. We have been church hunting for forever it seems. We left a great church so that makes it even harder because we are measuring all potential churches against the one we loved.

I used to live near Graffiti Bridge, but they have torn that down now. Lunds used to be a restaurant which was so good, but now it is just a deli. Baker's Square is a good restuarant. Does the EP Center still suck? I prefer Ridgedale or Mall of America.
It is hard to find a church after leaving one you really loved. Did you pastor in CA know of any churches here? He may have pastor friends that lead churches in MN.
