Anti-Semitic Comments made by David Ahenakew

Just wondering if any other Canadians have read the story about this man and his comments...how will this affect the Order of Canada?

I just read the story, and it seems to me there are far to may political leaders making racist comments in the "heat of the moment". Obviously he has strong opinions about Jewish people, and he started to rant and they came out. Sure he probably would never had said that if he wasn't in the "heat of the moment" but one cannot tell me that he doesn't think like that, because I truely believe that he does.
While his comments are undoubtly offensive can the really prosicute him for inciting a hatefulful riot? Legally I don't see how they can do anything to him.
As for the Order of Canada, well it's hard to say. Has anyone been removed before? I think it all depends on how otraged the public gets. If it coninues to be an issue in the media and public opinion is for his removal, then I would say he's out. I think it's one of those things that politicians would like to sweep under the rug and if people forget about it it will go away.

These remarks are truly disturbing. That a person who holds so much rank in Canada's Native population would say this is outragous. As for the Order of Canada, It was stripped from Alan Eagleson, when it was found out he had embezzeled millions from professional hockey players, and i think is should be stripped from Ahenakew.

I heard about this and was thoroughly disgusted. That's all I'm going to say, cause I don't want to open up the debate surrounding Canada vs the First Nations...

Yeah Eagleson is the only who stripped of this award...I first read this article during my overnight shift in the National Post.
There was a second article with many valid points about the Merit of The Order of Canada, with approximately 4,000 recipients it doesn't seem as prominent as it once was...

He should be stripped of this honour, but if what you're saying, that it's not as prestigious as it once was I don't think he'd care all that much.
