boot rule?
This is a silly question, but what is the boot rule? The new J.Crew catalogue came in, and many of the models (and girls at school) wear tall boots and knee-length (or slightly longer) skirts. Very cute.
But what is the rule? Does the skirt have to be like a tweed fabric or a heavier fabric? (I think so.) Usually boots are cute with denim skirts, but not all denim skirts (some girls look silly), especially if the skirt falls above the knee. What is your opinion?
The reason I ask is because, while I love my black leather boots, I need to buy a new pair. My current black boots just are NOT looking cute with any skirt I wear them with. So I will save them for my pants.

Forget the rules!
Forget the rules! Where them with what you like (ok, except for with shorts) !
I have two pairs of black knee high boots. One pair is suede (not worn very often) and the other pair is leather. I wear them with knee length, calf length, and long skirts in several different types of fabrics (not chiffon or anything like that) but knit, denim, leather, etc.
Once I saw a chick in a sundress over jeans with boots in vogue I knew that there would forever be no more rules! lol

I have almost to the knee length black boots and I wear them with my casual corner skirt and blazer to work occassionally (and I'm supposed to look professional).
So go with what you like and break the rules! Chances are that you'll be making a fashion statement anyway

okay, so along those lines.....
Thanks for your advice girls. I know that to each her own, but sometimes there are unspoken fashion rules, and I just can't be on top of all of them....although it is pretty clear when something looks bad, you don't wear it.
But along the same lines of this thread.....what kind of boot is your favorite (tall leather boot, not like Columbia or Timberlands)? Although the ones in J.Crew are cute, I am not a big fan of aching feet which is what happens after I wear J.Crew shoes. I really like Coach's Adrianna boots, but I am looking for advice and suggestions before I make the purchase.

Yeah... the rule is just wear what looks good. I wear my black knee boots with all sorts of things.
Oh, yeah... just don't wear them in the spring/summer/early autumn... tacky.

I have never worn boots with any kind of skirt, but i want to......
The boots I have are too low to wear with the skirts I have, which are like knee length or a little bit longer.
I have been thinking about this for a long time..... I have a caramel colored corduro skirt that has a slit in the front. It goes down to about mid-calf, so just a little below the knee. Would it look weird to wear like ivory colored pantyhose? I am talking about the thick ones, with like brown loafer type shoes? I havent decided on the top yet because I am still deciding about the whole pantyhose/leggings thing.
I just dont want to wear it without anything because ill get cold- well its cold *right now* in Houston. That might change tomorrow!

You want to wear it with tights? That's what you're talking about right? I think that would be okay... although I think boots would be better than loafers if you are wearing it out at night. But loafers could be really cute for the casual look in the day for school and work.

My favorite boots are my knee high leather boots by Nine West. I love them so much I have a black pair and a brown pair. They have a 2 1/2 inch heel but they are super comfortable. (Comfy enough to walk in and wear all day).

Hm...that might look a little matronly, I'm thinking, kind of like something a soccer mom might wear on a fall day to pick up the kids in the mini van (NO OFFENSE to soccer moms -- I just don't know if that's the look you're going for here!!)... I would wear the skirt with natural skin colored pantyhoes and tall brown boots with a bit of a skinny heel. With a longer skirt like that, I would recommend a sexier kind of boot or shoe to avoid looking frumpy.
