Let's see how far we get..
WHOOOO HOOOO!!!!!
Okay, here's the deal. I got ahold of my bud "E" and she's totally psyched about getting (hopefully) a national sorority on our campus. *nods happily* Tomorrow we're going to speak w/the Greek Life Advisor (who happens to highly dislike Greeks, figure that one ) and get the paperwork to be filled out and etc. For being a small campus they require 12 people that will be members if formed (thankfully we've got plenty-o-prospects) and then after we finish w/all that good stuff then we will have to write to the NPH about having someone come to campus. <---- that's what we're scared about. I mean, what happens if a NPC sorority isn't interested?? *worries* Oh well, we're hoping to have the little stuff finished by December. Well, this is the beginning...why am I feeling scared now?

Hey! You've definitely got to read the thread titled "Rush at UCSC" (at least, I think that's what it's called...just do a search and you'll find it--it's the one where there's about 700 replies). It's about a girl who did the same thing you want to do.
Oh, and here's wishing you bonne chance!

Achtungbaby80- You still dating Marty? <--has something funny to tell ye
Well, right now the 'big 3' has set our sights on AZiD for now. We can't have AXO, XO, or DZ on campus, we really do not want to tick off the locals w/the similar names. *shrugs* We have the 1st step in the process on the go now..*nods* Now it's just getting approval for a NPC colony is the next obstacle..oh well
-wants her own letters, Kayla

If the AZD thing doesn't work out (and if you're *absolutely sure* you won't go for DZ ), I think you should consider Phi Mu. One of my very best friends is a Phi Mu, and from what I know, it's awesome. It's also a VERY strong group nationally, and that's especially important when starting a new chapter.
Again, good luck!

It's not the fact we wouldn't -want- to go DZ..but..there's a local by the name of Delta Theta, and we wouldn't want people getting us confused and all and make them upset. Afterall, we need their vote to let us 'in' the All Greek Council to be recognized at school. We actually did look at Phi Mu, I mean, I love the Phi Mu's on here so that helped, heh. But one of the main girls didn't like pink , it's always the little things! But who knows, it's just the beginning!!!!!!!

What are the local sororities on your campus besides Delta Theta?
Do they have plans to affiliate with national groups?

Yeah, that's right, I didn't think of that! I was chatting with a few of them at a party a couple weeks ago, and they mentioned that they had thought of affiliating with DZ in the past because the names were similar.
OK, so Phi Mu's out 'cause you don't like pink...well, how about looking into Alpha Gamma Delta? I'm impressed with their organization, too (obviously, 'cause that was one of the houses I preffed!). And pink isn't one of their colors, either!

We have 5 local sororities, 1 local fraternity (formally 2 until the other disbanded) and 2 national fraternities (Tau Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Phi). I've spoken w/the majority of the soro's and they never say yea or nay about it, but, they've been around for quite some time and personally I don't think they will start affliating w/nationals. (But I'm not saying it couldn't happen though )
Achtung- Hey...you were at the party (The one in the 'TKE' apartment up on the hill)?? I think I was at the one you were at, cause it was only a couple weeks ago also!! Except I left around 10ish. I asked a member if they were even affliated w/DZ and she had no clue so...yeah.. Now it's just trying to get 12 girls all prepped and psyched about picking out at least 3 hopeful nationals. Oye!! Right now it's 1.Alpha Xi Delta 2. Phi Mu (I'm personally keeping them in, I LIKE pink lol) 3. is up for grabs. I was really impressed w/DZ and XO but....the locals w/similar names would just cause a situation that we all do not want to see come about.
I'm meeting up w/Erica and Krystal today so hopefully we can get some work finished..sheesh!!!

AXiD rocks but I am a little partial myself(<--- shameless plug)! ? I do know AXiD expands a lot- I think there were 5 either colonizations or charters this year alone...but I could be wrong New Members aren't up to speed at first
Whatever you choose Don't let it be based on colors and pick some group that represents the group the most Also, Kappa Kappa Gamma is a great orginization So check that out! (<---shameless plug #2, my sister is a Kappa)

How wonderful for you and your future sisters. Congratulations on all your hard work!
I hope you find the sisterhood that you deserve!
Much Panhellenic Love,
violets
P.S. I actually would not be overly concerned with the Greek Letters being similar to other chapters..do not exclude a sorority you like because of it. I have advised a small northeastern school that had two NPC"Alpha" chapters. Eventually, and after much kicking and screaming, two good-sized locals decided to "go National" they also chose sororities with "Alpha" as the first letter. It was absolutely fine. They meshed with the groups and the two other chapters were simply happy they found the right fit.
Remember, that when you bring a National to campus it has a cache all it own, and can establish itself quickly among a group of locals so don't worry about things like letters and colors, look for sisterhood, heritage and values.
Congrats and good luck.

Don't worry all, I'm not ruling every sorority out due to their letters and/or colors. -But- since votes are needed for us to be recognized we're not wanting to step on any toes, at least as of yet. We've already lost one vote. (Due to the Prez dating my ex-psycho fiance, ) I'm praying that since the Greek Life is dying on campus they'll see this as a good sign and not us trying to steal PNM's or something absurd like that. Thankfully we all have friends in each sorority that can help us out by persuading their sisters to let this through.

Oh I'm so sorry you've already lost a vote due to a personal situation. Some people just cannot seperate their worlds from everybody else's
Keep your head up, and everyone will be duly impressed with how you handle the situation. Good luck, this will be such an exciting journey for you!

Listen to Violets--she always gives good advice.
That's really bad that one group would vote against you wanting to expand just because of something that has nothing to do with the situation. Unfortunately, what can you do about it? I guess there'll always be people who dwell on silly things that don't amount to a hill of beans and ruin it for other people.

Whoops, I forgot...yeah, I think that was the same party! I didn't get there 'til late, though.
What was the funny thing?
