Hey guys! I am going into my sophomore year and Im debating if I should do sorority rush. How important is GPA when it comes to rush? I had a 3.0 first semester, and it dropped to a 2.3 due to math which I am retaking next semester. The majority of people who rush at my school are freshmen who do not have GPAs. Will they notice or care if I put n/a down for my GPA(what most freshmen do). I know if you have below a 2.5 you get put on academic probation while in greek life.

Sweetie -you need to back away - as we've already told you. Your Greek Life office will share your GPA with all the chapters on your campus so do NOT put N/A on your registration form! If you have any further questions, you need to call your Greek Life office and ask them.

GPA is one of the most critical considerations in rush. GPA is one of the first cuts made by chapters. Freshmen DO have a GPA from high school, which is the basis for their evaluation.

Putting N/A for your collegiate would certainly make you stand out... but not the way you would want.

Your cumulative average is a 2.3?

It's not just that you get put on academic probation below a 2.5, you are generally not eligible to receive a bid (at least for many, if not all panhellenic groups). The minimum is just that, a minimum. Don't go into formal recruitment, after having dropped your previous sorority, with a 2.3 GPA and expecting to be the special snowflake they make an exception for.

Whoa!!!! You dropped your first sorority right before initiation and now are asking us if you should try to conceal a drastic drop in your GPA?!!!

Yes, GPA is important to all GLOs, including those who came in last in the scholarship competition among the female GLOs. But also VERY important are personal qualities, such as what a prospective member brings to the table, including loyalty and involvement with the group to whom you have made a lifetime pledge.

Are you sure you understand what being a member of a sorority is all about?

In your other thread you said your GPA is above a 3.0. Now you are saying it's a 2.3. Which is it?

It doesn't even make sense. N/A means "not applicable". Why would someone who *has* a GPA write N/A? The only reason I can think of is because she's intentionally trying to hide her GPA (dishonesty) as she's hoping that no one will notice since she believe that freshmen also write "N/A".

That's lying and would be a one-way ticket to getting cut.

There's no gentle way to put this, so I will be blunt.

You need to pledge the library.

You are in school to learn. I can't think of an NPC sorority that doesn't have a minimum GPA requirement of at least 2.5 to pledge and be initiated. You will be dropped faster than a hot potato, and that's IF you're even allowed to register for formal recruitment in the first place.

Is this pattern of being not so truthful evident in all parts of your life? It could play a role in your not having been able to form lasting bonds in your first sorority..... You also have asked twice about whether to lie (regarding "personal issues" and not submitting your GPA).I would advise you to do some soul searching as well as studying before thinking of attempting to join any organization.
