I can't believe that girl did that during rush!!

Have any of you guys had someone go through rush and do something totally crazy/wierd?

A couple of years ago, during our skit day, a girl actually fell asleep during the skit. Needless to say, she was not invited back. She said she didn't get much sleep the night before. Hell, nobody gets sleep during rush, but don't fall asleep during a party.

The daughter of Pi Phi's Alum Club president showed up at prefs in shorts and a T-shirt. She was also acting very strange. Back then you didn't have to put a legacy on your bid list....guess who wasn't on it and guess who else, as a new alum, ended up right in the middle of the whole thing.

What it came down to was that (a) the chapter adored the mom and (b) no one on the Lord's green earth could stand the kid.

The poor girl....
Last year, we gave house tours on the first day. The PNM and one of the sisters were talking as they were walking upstairs together. I guess the PNM lost control of her footing and fell face-first onto the staircase. Luckily, she was ok besides a bruised nose. I'm pretty sure that she completely dropped out of rush after that.

My big sister told me her preference story. She wore brand-new shoes, and tried to rough up the slippery soles by scuffing them back and forth outside her dorm on her way to the Panhellenic Building. She didn't scuff enough. She slipped on the carpet during Pi Phi's preference. She had the presence of mind to say, "Well, at least you won't forget me!" Of course, after that, they had to give her a bid.

LOL, last year during Rush I was talking to a girl from Miami and I said something along the lines of "Oh really? What part? I go down to Miami a lot, we have a sister that lives in Surf Side and my boyfriend is from Northern Miami Beach."
Her reply: "Well, if your boyfriend is from northern miami beach, I probably slept with him already."

I could not believe that she said that! Needless to say, she wasn't invited back and whenever I see her around school I can't help but to laugh a little...

Being in Greek Life, at first I was hesitant to post on this thread. My thinking was PNMs read this, and I don't want them to think that we talk catty about them. Which for the most part, we don't. We say things like, "Oh, I just rushed the most awesome girl," or "The rushees look so cute and nervous."

BUT, as in life...in rush, we sometimes come across those girls who are just a bit different..."

Here is the story of Javelin Girl!!

Way back when, this girl came through rush at our chapter....my sister escorted her in and sat down in the living room to begin chat. My sister tried all the normal questions and ice breakers to get the girl to open up and talk...."Where are you from, what do you like to do, etc..."

The girl would not talk. So, my sister made the signal for a floater to come over. Went through the same motions. Nothing. So, the floater sister says, "So, you are from a remote town, do you have a lot friends that are going to school here."

The girl replies "No, I don't have any friends." No joke...but alas, it gets better.

"So, what about your family...are they sad that you are going to school so far away?"

"My parents hate me. They sent me here."

Alas, it gets better. We're in trouble....we have 20 minutes left in the party and this conversation is going no where. We don't want to be rude and just say nothing...so, we get another floater. This sister can talk to anyone...here's the rest of the story.

"Hi, "Susie", how's it going?"
"Ok, other than the weather, which is hotter than shit."
"Yeah, it's hot. So, what kinds of activities were you involved in in high school?"
"I was on the track team."

Oh, thank God, we can talk about track. The 3rd sister was on her track team in HS....but, what an unfortunate subject.

"So, susie, what did you do on the track team?"

"I threw the javelin."

"Oh, were you good at it?"

"I guess we'll never know?"

"Oh, why is that?"

"Well, during practice, I threw the javelin and it hit this girl in the leg. She was the state champion in the 400m. The javelin went through her leg destroying cartlage and tendins. She'll never be able to run again. I was kicked off the team right before state. Can I go the bathroom now?"

ding, ding, ding....the bell rings. Thank God!!! The party was over, she got cut. Found out that the girl eventually dropped out of rush and never pledged a house.

That is so sad! I actually feel sorry for the poor girl! So probably really needed a bond with close friends.

This is slightly off topic......

Last year during on day one of formal recruitment, we were lining up to sing our closing song, and I was half pushed/half fell into the rose bushes in our backyard. I didn't completely fall on my rear, but I was actually sitting on a branch of the bush during our final song.

But that wasn't the worst of it. While we were lining up for the next party, somebody asked me if I had accidentally started my period!!! Nope, it was just my leg and butt bleeding from the thorns. Hurt like hell.

Our rush advisor and I are extra close now, considering that she was the one who had to disinfect and bandage my legs and butt!

Definitely. You're basically trapped inside your house with these girls for almost two weeks. You're there from 8am until 1am. You learn things about each other that you never knew before. There is no way you couldn't be closer after spending that much time together.

Rush definitely brings everyone together! Like ZTAngel said, you're stuck in a house for a week with the same girls! I think my house is one of the first to come back early before rush. This is because we allow time to goof off and have fun! Everyday we have a theme (like who can wear the most Pi Phi clothing and who can dress up the craziest) to help liven the mood. Along with this and rotation exercises help all the girls to get to know each other better. I got to know some girls in my house that before I really hadn't talked to.

Back on topic though...My big sister told me that on her Pref Night she fell down our staircase. Luckily she brushed it off and laughed about it, and she got a bid! The funny thing is, I did the same thing on MY pref night at my house! My formal dress I wore was too long, and I ended up stepping on my dress on the way upstairs. Thankfully I caught myself before I hit face first! LOL Trust me, when when it was my turn to rush I made sure to firmly hold onto the handrail when going up and down the stairs during rush.

I've only rushed one time, but I had a doozy of a girl on Pref Night. I was paired with a girl who I vaguely knew through campus activities. I was excited to have her on such an important night, but it was a disaster! During practices my rush director always said NEVER to talk about boys, alcohol, and parties. Guess what we talked about during Pref Night? Boys, alcohol, and parties! I tried everything in my power to steer away from the bad topics but with no luck. The worst part was where we went into our dining room to eat cheesecake and sparking juice. She took one look at the juice and asked if we were serving alcohol! Needless to say she didn't get a bid from us!
