Arrow (rush skit) please help me choose

Hi--
I am new to this...but it seems like a really great resource.
I am in charge of the "outsides party" which is the 3rd day...and we need to have a 10-15 minute skit. Two ideas that we have right now are a middle eastern (think aladdin) theme and a 50's theme. Now, before i go any further, I need to tell you that my chapter has a bit of an image problem. We have the most amazing girls on campus (which is what everyone says once they get to know us), but we really don't come off well during rush. We need our theme to be fun, yet sophisticated. Classy, yet sexy. There are 4 other chapters on our campus. One does an under the sea theme, one does a flapper theme, one a clue theme, and the other an MTV theme. So, we have our two options, and we want to stand out, but I don't want to stand out TOO much. With the middle eastern theme, it's be a I dream of DG type thing...with three wishes, and the third being for her to be a DG. We haven't really thought about the 50's theme too much. Whatever we decide though, we need to come up with a way to uniquely dress the chapter, nametags, the skit itself, and a drink (including way to serve it)...I think the middle eastern theme could be really cool, but I think there's a high possibility it could be tacky and not come together. Oh yes, and we have a $350 budget. Another idea we have is something city related or new york like (since we already have come decorations), but we cannot think of any skit!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Talking

You could do "DG and the City".

I'd avoid the 50's theme because it could come off more cutesy than sophisticated. And I'd avoid the Aladdin theme unless everyone could pull off a sexy little Jeannie inspired outfit.

With "DG and the City" the chapter can dress in chic or trendy clothes and have a skit about 4 very different rushees and thier search for the perfect sisterhood. And you can use the city supplies that you already have!

You could also do "Studio DG" ala Studio 54 or a coffee house/poetry reading/beatnik theme

Beatnik is awesome, everyone gets to wear black. You can make it as serious or as funny as you want. Plus what better excuse to make up poetry?

Oh, I think a 50's theme might be very classy

Think Audrey Hepuburn or Breakfast at Tiffany's, cocktail dresses, big pearls, mock Cosmopolitans. But I don't have any resources for such a thing. Have you checked with EO? I believe they have some skits for use in the sister's only area.

I'm sorry to be the party pooper here, but please do not send anyone the DG's in the City skit. It was written for Delta Gamma and is only avaliable to Delta Gamma's (via the national web page). I know we all go to different schools, but if ideas get passed around too much we'll all end up doing the exact same skit - even at same schools. I know here at NCSU who is doing what skit is kept pretty tight lipped...not sure if other schools do this, but I do know that our Executive Offices makes certain skits only avaliable to DG's for a reason.

Good point!

I recall that most groups who have such skits available keep them on sister's only sites for that reason. They are generally not shared outside the same sorority.

I'm sure someone from AGD can refer you to your groups repository of skit ideas on your national site.

Actually, we don't have one. Carla should contact her chapter's recruitment consultant for ideas, instead.

ah, you must be talking about one of the chapters around here
there's a sister who is a DG and her sister was a Pi Beta Phi
i think that some of the DGs got mad because Pi Phi did a 'sex in the city' skit just like theirs. . .

*cringes*

i don't think anyone meant any harm

Donielle, I think that the recruitment files will be up on the private side within the next few weeks, along with everything else on the website that is under development.

But Carla, definitely contact your Recruitment Consultant. She has *books* of ideas and skits! I'm positive she will have something you're looking for. PM me if you need contact information.

Thanks for clarifying, Maria. I meant that we don't have recruitment files *right now*. I'm itching to see the new site when it's up; I'm sure it will be a huge help!
