Aaaarrrrggghhh
Ok, I'm so angry right now, so I kind of need to vent and blah. So I go to school at NYU and there have been two rapes in the area recently, BOTH in busy areas, one at 6:30 am and one at 9:30pm(!!!)...and this is in the middle of the CITY, so obviously there would be mad peeps around. So anyways, I was talking with some of my sisters tonite about it, and it just made me so angry thinking about how these shithead horney bastards rationalize it, "well, SHE was asking for it, blahblahblah." Yes, it's true that to protect your own safety in the unfortunate circumstances that exist, precautions should be taken, but that in NO WAY EVER excuses a guy for allowing his fucking instincts to take over reason and human compassion!!! How can you possibly ever rationalize brutalizing another human being, in a way that is so devastating physically, mentally AND emotionally??? And what's even worse is that a mentality like that is what keeps women from coming forward and convicting these "people", especially in the case of aquaintance rape. Please understand that this thread in no way accuses anyone here or anyone you know of doing something like that, but it IS and issue on college campuses, and it HAS happened in the greek community as well. My roomate just told me that she saw a survey in which the majority of college age guys asked said that if there were no consequences involved, they would rape women. I can't believe that, please let it not be true, I know two women close to me that have had that happen to them, one was tormented by the guy afterwards for a year but she never said anything because she thought it was HER fault!! "Well, I only said no once, maybe I was too quiet." FUCK THAT! Everyone, can I ask you a question? What would you do if you found out that someone you knew had raped someone? Because in my case, even if they had been my best friend, I would be the first to try to get them sent to jail, there are no exceptions there. You know the other thing that is disturbing? The fact that no one came to these women's aid, and it's something that happens all the time, people are witnesses to a woman being assaulted and just standby without saying anything. There are so many self-defense classes, there ought to be workshops on how to tactfully investigate a suspicious situation between two strangers, yo. I dunno...maybe I'm not even making any sense, I have so much to say that it's all kinda fragmented and jumbled. I hope none of you will take offense to anything I'm saying, and I would really like to hear what you have to say about the subject, it would help to reassure me what I know must be true---that the survey my roomie told me about is bullshit, that this is an important issue to both sexes, and that there is SOMETHING that can be done about it. BTW, the rape rate is rising here now too, I don't feel as safe anymore, this is not fair! Ok, I'm done, I need to take some deep breaths and count to ten, hahahahahahahaha.

THESE PEOPLE ARE COMPLETE ASSWHOLES! If it is in the case of a survery of Fraternity (Men), they are not, they are ignoric, incompetent, Moronic, Cranial Rectoidal S^#* Bags!
If I caught a guy while raping a women when I was on the PD, I would have beat the living Hell out of him, no questions asked!
But once again in the Political Correctness of the Society to day, It is the Womens faults!
It is still WRONG_WRONG! Even the creatures in the Animal kingdom do not do that unless they both want to have sexual incountering!
Well, I guess I just came up in another time period!

It is really sad that some men cannot control their sexual desires. What is worse is the fact that most of the men that were included in the survey said they would rape if there were not consequences. That is sick!!! What ever happened to respecting a woman's dignity. My heart goes out to all rape victims.

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.
I have heard it said, that there are only two animals that commit rape. Rats, and human rats. How true.

someday when i am attorney general i hope to impliment a madatory policy of castration for repeat sex offenders so that maybe they won't be able to have or act on the so called "urges" that make them rape and molest....
of course i'm kidding with the above, but i do believe more needs to be done about such a serious crime. when people are afraid to come forward about being raped becuase they are shameful or society says the woman (or man) was asking for it it is a aure clue in my head that we need to change these misconceptions. people don't ask to be murdered, and they don't ask to be raped either...

I wonder if people (mostly men) who rape would look at their actions differently if a close family member was a victim of rape? Would it matter to them? I suppose anyone who performs such an act, like rape, probably doesn't care about what the reprocutions are and what they're doing!
So sad!
What's worse is I've read that in MOST cases, the victim knew her attacker. That's even more alarming.

I don't know if there is that much of a distinction between the motivation for rape when you attacked out of nowhere and date rape. Most of what I've read says the rapist has hate-anger-fear- (take your pick) towards women in general and it's more of a violence/power motivation than actually sexual.
That survey...it CAN'T be true!!! I only hope it was some "macho"
type of answer. If it was a true reflecton of their beliefs, then something has happened to our young men. I just can't/won't believe it.

I just wanted to state that rape is not committed because of "hornyness" or men who are so overcome by their sexual urges; it is a crime of violence and it is about asserting power over a woman.
The fact that no one came to these women's aid, and it's something that happens all the time, people are witnesses to a woman being assaulted and just standby without saying anything. Dear Cloud9, I hear your anger! One thing that I think will make you feel empowered is to take a Self Defence course. One thing that was the best thing that I *EVER* did was a take a course called "Model Mugging". It was the greatest thing and smartest thing that I ever did for myself. It teaches you how to fight for your life, and I am so glad that I took it. I walk much more confidently now, and it feels much much better. It also shows you how to defuse a situation verbally, so that it does not necessarily have to resort to physical fighting.
The course that I took, you are fighting against a mugger using full force blows (pic below). Was I afraid? You bet I was! The thing is, courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to push through your fear and do what needs to be done. When I did my fighting, the attacker was yelling loudly at me and calling me everything filthy name in the book. This is intentional, because in real life, an attacker would likely do the same thing.
I feel that because I did this, I would able to fight for my life if I ever needed to.
I looked around on the net to see if Model Mugging is offered in NYC and yes, it is! I strongly urge you to contact these guys. I was scared, and you will be too...but you will feel so great and so proud of yourself for doing it. I don't know how much the course will be in NYC, but you have to ask yourself, how much is your life worth? Anyhow, I hope and pray that you will pursue this (maybe get a friend to sign up with you!) Women don't need to feel powerless! Oh, another thing...a lot of people think, "Women can't fight back, because they are not as strong as men". That is bull$hit. While men might have a stronger upper body, generally speaking, women have incredibly strong legs...so you are taught alot about ground fighting, etc.

TRUE!!! Ok, maybe that might be considered a bit on the harsh side to some people, but I can't help feeling like that would actually be a justifiable deterrent to sex offenders. Because, to be honest, although I don't know for sure(and if I'm wrong please correct me), I feel that once someone commits an act like that, it is bound to happen again sooner or later to another person.
CutiePie2000, Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. Our sorority is actually hosting a self-defense event tomorrow, I dunno if it's the same program you were talking about, but hopefully it will be good. I'm hoping it will make me feel safer, it's weird but I've NEVER felt nervous about walking around by myself at night in Manhattan...but these stories have really bothered me, especially after hearing that the rape crime rate in general is going up here. Yet another terrible side affect of these crimes: the psychological damage they do to the public!
