Avatars Are Now Available for GC Supporting Members
Avatars are now available for GC supporting members / subscribers.
We've discussed the possibility of using avatars on GC several times in the past. I realize that there are some members who prefer using the forums without avatars being displayed within discussion threads. For anyone who does not want to see avatars displayed within threads, it's easy to turn them off. To do so, go to Edit Options within your UserCP, scroll a bit more than half way down the page to the "Visible Post Elements" section, uncheck the "Show Avatars" option and then click "save changes" at the bottom of that page.

It says I lack those privileges. I'm pretty sure I subscribed. Strange.

Everything seems to have gone through fine with your account subscription upgrade. It might have something to do with you also being a moderator, maybe a conflict in settings somewhere. I'm working on it and also replied to your PM.
For anyone who has subscribed, if you cannot see this linked thread then please send a private message to let me know as you should now be able to see it.

Here's what your link gets me:

Kevin, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

I know you're working on it, but just FYI, it's still not working.

I just subscribed and I expect it will be a little while before my account gets "upgraded."
(Kind of on the fence about an avatar. Don't know what the choices are.)
John, appreciate you making the improvements and continuing to maintain the site/forum/etc.

I followed John's instructions, but it said I didn't have access. Oh well, I guess it works for some and others it doesn't. I want an avatar.

Don't worry, I'll get it all sorted out very soon. This is the first time I've done this type of setup on a forum, so it might take a few days to get everything working exactly right with automated account upgrades, etc.

The link John sent me worked for me. Haven't explored anything yet.
ETA: things work. Witness one of my Belgian Tervurens as my avatar. Woof!

Cool avatar! As an animal lover, I heartily approve.
Question: O' Hare Airport used to use Belgian Tervurens as "drug dogs" to search for drugs. Is this breed commonly known/used for that?

barbino! I have lots of photos and videos of my Belgians and am happy to share with you. Belgians are a wonderful breed, but are not for everyone - they are pretty high maintenance in terms of needing challenges, being trained, having a job to do, and so on. They are "high drive" and not couch potatoes. Yes, they are used for narcotics and explosives work; for all kinds of SAR work; in the military; and so on. The Belgian Malinois are especially liked by law enforcement; they are short-coated, unlike the Tervuren, Groenendael (commonly known as BSD) or Lakenois (the curly coated ones, they are freaking adorable). My two are amazing at tracking and herding, as well as agility and obedience. My male is a speed demon and has beaten some sighthounds at lure coursing.
OK, enough of the swerve. Back to the topic: cheerfulgreek, I got that "upload failed" message too - but my avatar loaded. dbb - I found the avatar on my user control panel page.
